One thing that I always found annoying was that the counselors were original characters instead of characters from the movies.

Paul could've easily been Ben from Part VII. They even have the same blue outfit. The redheaded Laura could've been Robin. (Also from Part VII.) George, the chubby one, could've been Shelly from Part III. Mark and Chrissy could've been Tommy and Megan from Part VI. (Tommy was also in Part V and appeared as a child in Part IV.) And Debbie could've been any one of the brunettes -- preferably Chris since she's the best girl in the whole series.

But it never dawned on me before: this game came out after Part VII: The New Blood. The game goes for balance with its characters. Some can run faster or jump higher. Some are better at dodging or rowing. Let's just give balance the middle finger and include the girl with telekinetic powers.

Who do you want to play as, the character throwing rocks at Jason on the one using crazy mind powers to electrocute him, blow him up, or literally drop a house on him? They could've taken away her powers to restore balance, but what would have even been the point? Let's have a character with super powers without super powers.

Other than that, the game borrows from the series is ways that aren't immediately obvious. The use of Mrs. Voorhees's sweater to dissuade Jason from attacking is from Part II. The intro with the knife going into the mask is the poster for Part IV. Jason swimming through the water is from Part VI - as is the plot of having to protect a cabin full of kids from Jason. And Jason's selection of weapons is from Part VII. After losing the first round to Tina, he upgrades from the machete to the axe.
