Many people sleep with their mouths open. So, to keep pests out of those open mouths, mint toothpaste or mouthwash is recommended, since pests like mice, rats and insects detest the smell of certain mints.

While its true the mint does repel pest, there are other reasons why its used. I believe theyre joking that the real reason is to keep away pest. But its true many insects detest Monty things While I wouldnt call it super common knowledge, its does seem to be known pretty well that certain plants keep pest away Mint is one of them

Pests generally don't climb into people's mouths to sleep for the same reason you wouldn't climb into a lion's mouth to sleep
