Anything above my arbitrary emergency savings # in my bank account, which is in case anything breaks, surprise bills, an impromptu trip, quit my job/get fired, etc.

I'm young and it seems like a waste to leave it in the bank. Throw it in the most popular ETFs if nothing else. Supposedly there is 100 years of data with investing in those, and that there has never been a 20-year span where you don't end up with significant gain.

Index funds is one of the best investing Methods for long term.
