Pepe is everywhere on Discord and is used by more than the alt right these days. I think it's a little late to put the genie back in the bottle even if it would be best to honor the creator's wishes.

A symbol means what it is intended to mean. There is no 'fixed' meaning.

Wojak (or "feels guy") is innocuous and even the NPC variant isn't a big deal but the out-of-hand way that using it to call people soyboys and basically render all further discussion as moot because "your opinion is soy, all further points will be met with another soyboy wojak" is enough to make me lose my damn mind (plus it can be used in a "if you get annoyed then it must apply to you," way).

It predates the 4chan hoax. It was more like Richard Spencer first started using it in his "It's OK to be white" campaigns and he and his buddies would pose with it and people took notice and the "WP" graphic from 4chan was post hoc manufactured evidence.

Fuck this shit. All the BTTV emotes with Pepe are fantastic. Stuff like FeelsBadMan and other Feels_Man variants, POGGERS and its million variants, PepeGun, PepeLaugh, monkaS and all its variants... like there's actually hundreds of them, and they're staples of many of my favorite channels like Linkus7 and TheOddOne, which are lighthearted places that absolutely do not in any way relate to right-wing politics.

Similarly, Gigachad isn't toxic, it's obviously satirical and tons of people have made equally satirical variants of it like putting their own scrawny selves in a similar gif, or Kiryu/Majima, that sort of thing.

It's possible, even likely, that the same symbol can be used by different groups to mean different things.

There's no point in insisting that a symbol can only be innocent if people are out there using it to communicate something that isn't. They took your symbol. You cannot stop them. There is neither ownership nor control.

However, the same applies to your usage. You may continue to communicate innocently to those who understand your use of the symbol.

It's always the people calling out others for using the symbol for that reason that "fell for the prank". These people will never mock the white supremacists who, by their logic, also fell for the same prank. For some reason.

Chill out. I never said or implied things dont change. In fact my post implies otherwise when I said started off as meaning a change happened.
