I'm a GP who works on primary care, a lot of my time goes to preventive medicine on cardiovascular health. I love it, but it's frustrating as f*** to work on that with people who don't really show any interest on improving their overall health. "Oh I can't eat bread on every meal? No one told me that!" (Diabetic who's been seeing a nutricionist for 8 years). "Dr, I just can't lose weight!" (Has no idea how many calories they eat a day). And the lies. Oh god, the lies. We give out monthly medication, which they claim they take, yet their checkout registry is laughable, their recipes don't match the dates (i.e. I last saw them a year ago, gave a 4 month recipe, they claim they "take it every day" even though the recipe expired 8 months ago).

And so on.

It's necessary, it does get through to some people, but it's frustrating as fuck and not something I want to do for the rest of my life. I'm done. f*** it.

And the lies. Oh god, the lies
Indeed - and a lot of them are easily verifiable as lies.

I'm a pharmacist who covers an anticoagulation clinic among other services. I love the patients who swear up and down that they take their warfarin but the INR is 1.

No idea. All people who have said they are physicians consitently over the years seem pretty legit to me.

There's that and there's being lied to one's face. I'm actually appreciative of patients who say "I didn't do it, I don't care".

you shouldn't force anything on anyone. their lives, their choices. you should make recommendations and inform people of the pros and cons, but that's where your responsibility ends.

Sounds like your a bad doctor if you're willing to jeopardize the treatment of future patients because others didn't respect your authority and bruised your ego.

As a Doctor you can only give people medical advise based on your experience and teachings. It's up to the patient if they want to follow your advice or not. You shouldn't be "forcing" anyone to do anything.

Well, that's part of it. Free healthcare has its downsides (on its providers).

Quotes were meant to express it's within the confines of free healthcare and within the Family Medicine model. We have to call patients who "forget" their next appointment, and so on.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

No harm done. It's a touchy subject for me because I'm a big believer in getting second opinions and I'm not a huge fan of Doctors who think they can never be wrong. Not accusing you of that at all, just an overall grievance I have with Doctors in general.

I'm 100% with you on this. I usually tell people who are unsure or want a specialist's opinion to feel free to do so, I won't be offended.

I do insurance stuff for a hospital. I'll constantly see in chart notes that a patient says they are taking a medication as directed with no results. So the doctor will prescribe something stronger. I'll submit it to the insurance but it will be denied because they never filled their old prescription and the requirements for coverage are being on the weaker stuff for a year.

Its just a waste of everyone's time. Why did you even make the appointment if you're not going to take the medication?
