Just a blanket statement here but it's amazing how many don't understand how the world works.

Why do people expect to get everything for free? With cable you both had ads and had to pay monthly. Why would you all think anyone should run YouTube for free? Would you? Google is a business and they're in it for a profit. That's simply how the world works. And they do pay their content creators btw. Not a lot, sure, but still better than even the ad revenue.

Obviously I'm going to get comments about me boot licking for simply understanding a corporation doesn't want to do anything for free.

I must've been imagining YouTube making billions over the years

Google didn't do that. The viewers and the creators did. Here's our thanks. Pay us 200 a year for nothing other than what we've let you have free for 15 years. Thx for making us billions btw. Now fuck you pay us.

And who pays for the servers to store these videos? That alone must cost an incredible amount, but nah. Keep hating CE. Rest of us with Premium will adjust our monocles slightly as we watch everyone else continue to get pissed off and find new workarounds over this. It's actually kind of enjoyable to see people freak out, haha.

They made money off the ad revenue. The subscription money is for the convenience of not sitting through ads. Yes, you can use ad blocker to get around that for free, but my point is I don't get why everyone is on their high horse about Google trying to stop that.

They are in it for the money.

Youtube ad sales were $8bn dollars for the last quarter. Any time their business model isn't working out for them, they can go subscription only.

(They won't, of course, because they don't have the product quality, and cannot afford to relinquish their position as the number one hosting site).

But do continue to think of the poor corporation while adjusting your monocle. No doubt you grossly overpaid for a lucklustre product at the opticians as well.

I just think the whole thing is stupid. Most the time YT is on its just for noise so when an add pops up I don't even see it and most advertisers are so fucking stupid that they never verbally mention what the product is they just put some lame ass music or a dumb skit so my video gets interrupted by a pointless musical break. They're literally wasting my time for nothing.

It's not that people expect to get everything for free, it's just finally the result of giant corporations all collectively shit kicking the fuck out of people that gets them fed up. People are going to look for ways around that, and blocking ads is a very easy way to do it.

I thankfully haven't had a problem with YouTube yet. Got Firefox, UBO, and privacy badger. Sponser block too.

I don't look down on people who pay premium. It's odd how some who are acting smug about it. People find the absolute dumbest shit to feel elitist about. Whether it's for real or just people looking for attention, it's pathetic and embarrassing either way. It used to be universally agreed by everyone that ads suck and now people defend them.

When attempting to flaunt affluence, most people show off expensive cars or overpriced watches.

Paying $15 for a service that offers nothing you can't get for free doesn't quite do the job, but at least you can um...

Listen to music while tabbed out? Oh wait, you can probably do that for free too.

Sorry don't know where I was going with this.

The only way they can truly stop it is to make it impossible to automatically distinguish between the regular video content and ad content. However, there are a number of methods that make it very hard to actually make it impossible to distinguish.

Same here, I got it initially on some bundle deal but when that ended I decided to keep it because I liked it so much and YouTube is probably my most used service. But I don't blame people for using an ad blocker, I didn't for a little while just because they didn't bother me too much but once ads started becoming intrusive, disruptive, and frankly just flat out annoying I switched to Firefox and got em myself

Yeah, I use YT Music a lot, and the fact that I do watch YouTube the most out of anything (netflix, disney+, hulu, etc.) does give it a large amount of value. Even in the better days when ads weren't nearly as long/much, I would still prefer not having to watch ads at all. Sure, adblock is a thing, but there is convenience to Premium as well.

I don't know about any of the technical stuff. It all sounds the same to me (having used both it and Spotify Premium in the past). I have downloaded everything I listen to, so maybe that has something to do with it.

It does have a larger library since you can stream any music video off YouTube, especially if you listen to indie musicians who post and built their base primarily on it.
