It used to be a cheap alternative to hotels with freedom to do more than you can a hotel, that's just not true anymore:

DoorDash is still good for food delivery.

Unless its for a big group of people who will split the price up and want to be together, still useful than most hotels.
But yeah its trash for small single families.

Always do hotels if its just me and my wife and 2 kids.

And doordash still has a purpose for people willing to pay the premium to have food delivered to them.

All of these gig-like apps will go to shit. They're designed to operate at a loss until the competition is broken, then prices will go back up but worker conditions etc will be worse

Doordashs only useful purpose should be for getting food when youre sick or drunk at home.

AirBnB has worked well for us to find accommodations in places that dont have hotels available. Specifically, Ive used it several times to find cabins in rural areas, and also used it to easily find a place to stay when I traveled to Mexico for a friends wedding, so that was cool too.

but for general travel, or trips to developed areas, yeah, Id probably be fine just booking at a hotel anyway.
