I think I'd have to lean Will Ferrell, if only because his best characters feel different. Ron Burgundy is not the same character as Ricky Bobby, who isn't the same character as his Step Brothers character, etc. They're all dumb, but different kinds of dumb.

Adam Sandler's best characters are, basically, all the same character. And it's a good one, but Happy Gilmore, the Wedding Singer, and Billy Madison all feel like the exact same character at different stages of their life.

Will Ferrell has characters and Adam Sandler just plays himself.

Let me break down a few from my top 5 of each of their movies, that come to my mind first. 4 comedic, 1 serious.

Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, Waterboy, The regular dude from Big Daddy, and the guy in Uncut Gems
Ricky Bobby, Anchorman, 1/2 of a Stepbrother, The guy in Old School, and his character from Everything Must Go

Farrell is probably better. Sandler had the better movies, and probably the top end of characters, but Farrell had the higher floor and more overall consistency in his roles. Like...little nicky sucked. Decent movie, but Sandler was garbage in it.

I feel like Adam in Click would solo easily, reality-bending powers are just too OP. Although Will was in that movie with the writer and the fourth wall break, so he might put up a fight that way.

Oh, this isn't about a fight to the death amongst their characters?

I gotta give it to Will.

Sandler plays a lot of his characters the same- which is fine, I love Adam Sandler, but Will Farrel shows more range, and honestly more emotion (even if it over the tops a lot of the time).

Sandler movies are better, but Farrel is the better actor.

but his comedic range aint that much bigger than sandlers

waterboy is better than most ferrell movies
