I wanted to look up how this site viewed the protagonist reveal from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. I heard there was a bad reaction. But found out board only goes as far back as 2008. So at least 4 years of posts might have been purged from just that board maybe it has happened to others.

Allen started archiving topics in 2008 so anything before that would have purged.

The boards didn't used to archive back in the day.

I'm not sure when it started (2008 maybe seems a bit late to me but that may be my memory playing tricks)

Archiving on game boards began at the end of January 2008. Anything before that is lost forever unless someone archived the topic themselves.

Damn that is a shame. I had been wondering what this site was like in the old days. I guess majority of it is lost to history.

I was there in 2004. Most didn't care and were more amazed at the scale of the game, although there were some ignorant ones complaining that they "can't relate" to CJ and wanted the option to play as a white character. There were also some rather disturbed individuals who came here to preach that in the future all US cities would become Los Santos and asked people to visit a certain infamous white supremacist website, but luckily they were banned.

I also remember the uproar in the Halo 2 boards when Gamespot only gave it a 9.4/10, and others complaining about the campaign being too short. And the Twilight Princess board exploded when it got 8.8/10 from Gamespot.

Twilight Princess Gamespot score was another moment I was trying to find as well. It seems people were aware of limited archiving in those days and some screenshots that were posted when the Starfield score came out. But those screenshots probably make up a small percentage of reaction and we unable to view the posts in them.
