Today is her first day in the office.

She's been doing health care for the last 10 years. Primarily as a Cardiac Monitor and Dialysis Technician. Over the years she's voiced how difficult and abusive it is working in healthcare and how healthcare workers are mistreated and not appreciated enough. Workplace bullying from nurses and other negative things were common while she was working

So the last year she's been training in various boot camps and training programs along with self study to transition to IT. Along with me giving her info and guidance on where to start and what to do. After about a year training and searching she's finally on the job. I'm actually happy and amazed she was able to do it without a college degree. It was hard for me to find employment even when in had just an associates degree back in the day. Glad that it's working out though. Hoping that it sticks because the sky is the limit

Is this the same one you had the ultimatum with? Hope things are well.

Nice. Is it a more general IT position or a specific field within IT? Tech is a great field for people with good technical acumen.

Yeah it is. I decided to take my time. We're both just taking it day by day and living life. No hard feelings about the situation either because I understand rules are rules and I do admire what they're trying to do. I'm just not at that level of commitment at the moment.

It's an IT Support position right now. Don't know what the exact job responsibilities are yet but I believe it will be general troubleshooting

Nice. I started out in IT at an ISP tech support job. If she's looking to move up in the IT world, my recommendation would be to figure out what area of IT she likes the best (networking, systems, security, etc.) and then get certifications in that area to land higher paying jobs.

I know it's bad in IT too

But some of the stories I heard was that you'd even have certain patients getting verbally and physically abusive with staff so I guess it might be a slight upgrade

Yeah there's not I think it's a good thing for more women to get into it. It also isn't as complicated as people may think it is.

Yeah, it really isn't. Think the biggest thing is getting the confidence to tell people what you're doing and why. I started at Wells Fargo, thankfully internal, and all my jobs since have been internal so I've never had to deal with the general population... I'd probably murder myself if I had to do that. lol

IT is the kind of thing I could only see myself doing if I started young (which I did, sorta). Trying to switch into it after working another field first I wouldn't have the patience for it at the bottom (help desk is infuriating and I only really survived it because I respected that I had much to learn and enough years in my life to make it pay off).

Yeah, I spent 5 and a half years doing tech support for the general public. Wouldn't recommend doing that for that long, lol. I didn't have a career plan at the time, nor was I even aware that certifications existed until about 3 years in.
