In plain language, a violent mob of Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol with the express purpose of stopping a free and fair election from being certified, and they did so after Donald Trump urged them to "fight like hell" to stop said certification.

Over 3 and a half years later, people are still getting arrested left and right for their actions on January 6th, 2021.

Considering how many have been charged, convicted, released, and gone right back to the same shit, Judges should know by now not to go light on them and stop giving them the benefit of the doubt. Especially when you have sentencing guidelines that say they deserve far more time than you are giving them.

But, judges will still go easy on these folks. It's going to take the rhetoric turning towards the judiciary more violently before they finally sober up. I unfortunately see this happening soon, with the way Trump is ramping up his verbal assaults in the face of real consequences.

Claudia Mouradian, an underwriter in Zurich North Americas commercial insurance division, testified on Tuesday that Allen Weisselberg told her things about the way appraisals worked at the Trump Organization that appear to directly contradict testimony he made earlier this month.

Law360's Stewart Bishop reported that Mouradian, during her testimony at the Trump civil fraud trial in New York, said that the longtime Trump Organization CFO told her that Trump's properties "held onto their value year after year with little fluctuation." She then said that Weisselberg told her they used appraisal firms like Cushman & Wakefield and Newmark Group as third parties to determine the property values.
Prosecutors showed her earlier Weisselberg testimony in which he said that they never used appraisals to value Trump's properties for the "statements of financial condition."

She testified: "It was not consistent with what he told me."
In the cross-examination, Trump's lawyers focused on trying to get Mouradian to confirm that the company found Trump's company to be an important client.

Tuesday's testimony comes after the magazine Forbes accused Weisselberg of lying during sworn testimony by claiming he never used Trump's penthouse apartment in Trump Tower when evaluating the former president's net worth, when old emails between Weisselberg in Forbes reporters showed the Trump CFO pressing the case that the Trump Tower apartment should factor into the magazine's estimates of his total value.

So now a witness in the New York civil fraud trial has directly contradicted Allen Weisselberg's testimony

Makes sense. Criminal trials require proof beyond a reasonable doubt, and someone pleading the 5th only proves that they believe they did something; not that they really did do the charge at hand. Civil trials where the burden of proof is just "more likely than not", you can think about what it most likely suggests rather than only what it proves.

In this case, there's also the part where the state has provided the judge with a crapload of evidence and the defense isn't really coming up with any valid argument to justify what the state's evidence says.

The defense asked for a directed verdict last week after Michael Cohen's testimony, but the judge said something along the lines of "Absolutely not. There is enough evidence in this case to fill this courtroom."

Was Weisselbern testifying in favor of Trump? I thought he was a state witness and thus discrediting his testimony would help Trump..

Allen Weisselberg is a defendant in this case. As is Don Jr., Eric, and Donnie himself. The courts made them drop Ivanka. I think statute of limitations on stuff like this is insane. I get it, but it's like "hey, you got away with it long enough, so you're good now" sounds awful.
