New York's canons, Section 100.5(C) appears to do so and prevents contributions over $500. That said, they need to prove bias/prejudice for any recusal or mistrial.

Edit: also, again, our job as law clerks is/was to help the judge. Conversations would disrupt trial and examination. Kise is a shitheel.

They're going into Allen Weisselberg's severance package where he is currently being paid $250,000 quarterly until $2,000,000 is paid. The $2,000,000 just happens to be the same amount as he was fined for tax fraud in a previous trial. Part of that agreement says he isn't supposed to cooperate with the NY AG's office as it pertains to this trial since the NY AG's office is adverse to them...

Kinda brings up some interesting legal jeopardy for Weisselberg. He's basically being bribed during this trial.

Trump's testimony will start on Monday. They have been doing half days on Fridays, so that tracks.

The civil trial, no. However, Donald Trump lost his entire New York business empire as a result of a pre-trial partial summary judgement. The NY AG's office provided mountains of uncontested evidence that the defendants committed a persistent pattern of fraud as it relates to inflating the value of Trump's properties. So the judge ordered that their business certificates have to be canceled. Any New York business entity owned by the defendants (Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, Allen Weisselberg, and Jeffrey McConney) will essentially be put into a receivership and their assets will be sold off. It will basically be treated like a bankruptcy, from what I've read. The action has been put on hold, though, until the trial finishes. It should be done toward the end of December.

This trial is still happening because there are also allegations of insurance fraud, falsification of business records, and conspiracy to sort out.

Other trials currently happening (all civil):

• Colorado 14th amendment trial to remove Trump from the ballot
• Minnesota 14th amendment trial to remove Trump from the ballot

And then there are hearings going on here and there in Georgia related to the RICO indictment.

The first criminal trial that could put Trump in prison is set to start in early March. It will be for the charges related to the January 6th indictment.

No oral closing arguments in the John Eastman disbartment trial... I guess there wont' be any updates until a few weeks from now at the earliest.

My guess is in addition to the dog and pony show to create ammunition for a potential mistrial, that they also want to create fuel for their base within the public sphere to latch onto.

This doesn't invalidate him from actually running, correct? People are still able to write-in?

Would be curious to see how that plays out. Though the typical trump demographic probably has trouble spelling, I wonder if writing in "Doneld Trump" would invalidate the vote.

Yes, he would still be allowed to run. In states that allow write-in votes, it is possible for him to be voted on. And voters intent would take into account misspellings in many circumstances.

The 14th Amendment itself doesn't have anything to do with elections, it makes you literally ineligible for the office. But it's a lot easier to get someone removed from ballots on the basis of ineligibility than to challenge the election results saying "you can't be President despite the fact you won 270 electoral votes." Especially with a loaded up openly biased Conservative SCOTUS.

Section 3. No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may, by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

As long as you've never taken an oath of office, the Constitution is perfectly fine with you being an insurrectionist and later running for office.

In a few years when a bunch of these insurrectionists get out of jail, they'll be running for Congress and have plenty of sympathetic assholes to bankroll them.

Unless that office is the president. It's apparently ok for the president to attempt to overthrow the government. Just make sure it's an entry level position and you don't have any other public office before that.
