Tbf, I wouldnt consider most of the MCU films good, but I generally like capeshit, so they Im usually entertained by them. I dont have anything against The Marvels and hope that its at least watchable.

Normally I get a good feel if a movie is going to be good or bad through my friend. He basically always goes to these early screenings (he had a lot of good connections) but he flat out told me he didn't go to the Marvels because he didn't care for it, which honestly might be the vibe I'm feeling more than people calling it bad.

It's one reason I think Bayformers is a sign that some acting like strict theater critics are being less than honest.

A fellow critic of the films declared them as what happens when you let a porn director do anything except explicit content.

Or basically, Bayformers is what you'd expect in porno parodies only it was deemed worthy of The Transformers license and made it to 5 films.

Looks like any other low tier MCU movie. Problem is that the build up behind the movie is locked behind Wanda Vision and Ms Marvel. Lots of people missed the latter because theyre angry man babies for the most part who cant fathom a comic book series being targeted at any other demo besides themselves. Same with she hulk.

That said...I do wonder WHY make this? Doesnt seem very relevant? Thoug Disney has made everything in the past few years NOT RELEVANT so this what you get when you forget about Quality control.

Well it's got Brie Larson, the bane of all white male nerds, and also two more women who are also minorities in lead roles, so regardless of the quality of the movie, those types are going to lose their fucking minds over it.

Doesn't seem like anybody gives a fuck about it. I've basically heard nothing about it from anybody. If it's targeting someone, they're certainly not showing it.

I read this could be the biggest drop for a sequel since the two Alice in Wonderland movies.

Doesn't seem to be any market for it. I thought people loved Captain Marvel.

The trailers have been pretty bad and I've heard the movie is only 30 minutes long :v

The Marvels is going to end up being the second coming of Ghostbusters 2016. A lot of the hate will be from deranged neckbeards who can't deal with Brie Larson, and that will be held up as a shield against any and all legitimate criticism against the quality of the movie or its box office results.

Personally I think it will and should fail, not because of MSheU nonsense, but because the movie will make absolutely no god damn sense if you haven't watched the D+ shows. All the way through Endgame all you needed to watch were the movies and the stingers at the end, but now you need to watch a bunch of middling TV shows on a paid subscription service to understand the movies, ridiculous.

I think all the shows except Loki are mid-to-bad, but the two shows the characters were in might be skippable. I dont remember if Monica got her powers in WandaVision, and I bet all you need to know for Ms. Marvel is that shes a teen hero.
Its not like we had a super-lengthy introduction to Falcon or Spider-Man (albeit we already had two movies before to cover Spideys origin so that its pop-culture knowledge, which they decided to as the third movie anyway and that was stupid imho).

But yeah, between MCU drones who eat up everything Disney throws out and misogynist neckbeards, any meaningful criticism will be lost be louder, obnoxious voices.

I think you answered your own question in your opening post. It's not that it looks bad, it's that people have come to expect nothing but more of the same and it wears on your opinion of the product after a while.

An opening as bad as the Flash and worse than Quantumania wouldn't be because a bunch of haters didn't show up. It's gonna show more that Endgame was the reason CM did well, and that the actual demand for her is extremely small to damn near non-existent.

It's gonna be fun watching its box office returns. You know they're trembling when they're using clips from endgame to promote a movie that has no connection to it. I mean, if you reach far enough I guess there may be. Oh its gonna be glorious

Carol Danvers is now one of the most important characters in marvel, in the comics. And Kamala Khan has been the most important youth character for years

Another reason Bayformers is a favorite example of the contrary is that you had five of those movies while GB 2016 was dismissed and replaced with Afterlife which is either enjoyed or at least no so controversial.

Not saying that liking say the TF films while hating GB 2016 proves one has a shady reasoning for such. Just that you would have to make a good case.

Nobody characters is not an issue with the MCU. If the characters being pretty unknown equaled failure then the universe would have failed from the start.

Because of the weird and completely unwarranted hate boner that they have for Brie Larson.

And some Avengers runs having the less iconic members. Namely the Kooky Quartet of Captain America, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Today the last three are better received, but then it was Cap and three former villains at most.

Lmao, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Ant-Man weren't unknown. They just weren't as popular as Spidey and the X-Men.

Regardless, like Zikten said, CM and Kamala are pretty major in the comics, yet nobody gives a fuck about their movie.

Looks like a standard Marvel kids movie. Not sure why adults would be excited for it but I'm sure kids will enjoy it.

I think it looks fun, but I've been fooled by upbeat catchy trailers Marvel put out before. I'm looking at you Quantumania and Live and Thunder.

So, I'll still see it, but my expectations are going to be lower. Like, I generally just expect average to good movies from Marvel, and when one is a hit it's a good surprise, but it's an even bigger surprise when one isn't even an average film. >_>

Until a few good ones come out, I think I'll stick with lower expectations for now. Current Marvel doesn't have such a great record for movies I've enjoyed a lot recently.

looks like another movie that i'll watch on Disney Plus in a couple of months...

Ms. Marvel was the least viewed D+ show, Captain Marvel doesn't seem to have any fans. And nobody gives a shit about Monica.

Ehh, just that when people state that quality comes first, they sound like people who don't believe in letting any biases compromise their critical nature. Plus the whole "Better than the worse doesn't equal good. But if 3 was widely criticized (Plus not having Wahlberg), why did it go beyond? And not as bad? I'd argue edgelord adaptations are a contender for that, especially like I brought up how it's a porno parody that has the official license and can't even show any thing R Rated or above.

I don't know. If say pandering is worthless to those who think quality should matter, then action, sex appeal, special effects (Especially for a meh film like the first Avatar*) pandering should also not be a reason to hold back on roasting a story.

Plus the 80s and 90s where people are certain were better film wise? Siskel and Ebert had doubts on that. One movie being so bad Siskel said he had to rethink his career.

Secret Invasion being terrible is probably the biggest thing holding it back. Really killed any faith in anything interesting happening if they thought that wet fart of a show was acceptable.

I think the problem is more that nobody cares.

I overall think making Ms Marvel into a TV show instead of a movie was a missed opportunity. Should have been Captain Marvel 2 and Ms Marvel and then this. It feels odd to have a crossover without any meaningful build up.
