verdugo and soto are pretty huge improvements to jake bauers or franchy cordero or whoever.

losing michael king sucks but there's a lot of pitching out there. if their plan isn't to extend soto they can still go out and get a big pitcher. they're reportedly still in on yamamoto. who is reportedly getting something like 10/300 offers which is insane

Saw a post elsewhere that actually makes this sound like a bargain. With the defferred payments, it lowers the present value of the contract to $600 million. Ohtani himself brought in around $20 million a year for the Angels, and the Dodgers are a far larger and more popular team. Combined, it's really more like a 10 year/$400 million contract or better. That's a fucking steal for someone like him.

it still counts as ~45m against the CBT even if he is only being paid 2m fwiw. also there is no limit on deferred money. it is completely within the rules.

seeing a lot of people say this sets a bad precedent but i seriously doubt many players would be willing to go for something like this.

Yeah this doesn't seem like something many players would want to do. Ohtani is going to be getting paid a bunch in endorsements to supplement the $2 million per year.

I don't really like it though. Seems way too game-y. It's gonna be lame as hell if the Dodgers get Yamamoto as well.

i can't even imagine what the rays haul would be. glasnow is an ace who is fairly affordable. randy is an all star OF with 3 years of control. they are going to ransack LA's farm.

original trade of glasnow/margot for do luca/pepiot went through. glasnow extends with dodgers for 5/135.

i don't think that is really a thing.

i think its more the dodgers need bats worse than pitching. unless they REALLY want to rely on heyward, lux, margot, and taylor to carry the outfield corners. which would be unwise imo. i'm also not convinced they actually want mookie to play 2B.

they just shelled out tons of cash for glasnow. buehler is still there. i imagine kershaw will come back. plus miller, stone, maybe urias, knack, sheehan, etc. the dodgers should really have no issue churning out some pitching.
