Honestly, I kind of like in our modern world of cramming out unneeded sequels and everything needing to be a franchise, there's something like Half Life that isn't spitting out extra installments, even with fan desire, because it isn't really needed and the job is done.

is the job really "done", though?

iirc episode 2 ends on a cliffhanger and Portal 2 drops a lot of lore hints about things to come.

and then nothing ever came from either of those.
