Never had to approach my boss to receive a raise.

We get a small raise every year but last time during our annual sallary meeting I told her that I need to look for a new job because I need better sallary, I got 3x the max raise you could get that year. It was nice, but I still have shitty sallary.

I am leaving hopefully next year, I wanna wait for my 20 years working at this enployer so I can get the 20 year present (gold watch, bike or something else I dont remember) and I want a bike.

so you think your new job will definitely pay you more? Otherwise you'd probably stay right?

yes. it's not a battle. unless you're talking directly to the ceo or some stingy cfo, no one's going to laugh in your face about it. but people have necessities, workers are human, and they know that there are reasons to ask for a raise. it doesn't have to be a threat or some kind of blackmail. it doesn't hurt to ask, either. they're not gonna say "pff he asked for a raise so we'll treat him worse".

and if they do that shit, you should work somewhere else.

no, don't lie. why are you lying about it? and either way, what's hurting from actually having some other place lined up so you can go to them with facts? but it also doesn't hurt to just straight up ask. unless you get bitter or childish about not getting it. but you don't go in expecting it, at least you shouldn't. but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Yes, I received a promotion to a tier 2 position when I first started IT as helpdesk. It came with no raise but more responsibility and burden of knowledge.

I harassed my boss for a raise for about 3 months before his boss caved and gave it to me.

From there every promotion (I got one every year) came with an actual raise so I didnt care.
