Considering how all the baby boomers are retiring, and they're reaping the benefits of their subsidized home purchases when houses were 1/40th of what they are now, I think there's a target market for old people that has a lot of potential for profit. Some ideas besides becoming a nurse come into mind:

Old people that are depressed and need a friend to talk to - Could I start my own counselling services that are open to the public without legal issues with certifications and degrees? I could advertise myself as a "friend" that is just here to listen to your problems and not offer advice that could be on your medical records.

Pretend to be the son/daughter you never had for the single elderlies that have lived in solitude.
I'll sell it as a role playing - package deal where you can choose out of three options: 1. Edgelord son/daughter you wish you never had. 2. The sweetest valediction. 3. The confused and mysterious underachiever.

Create a theme park for senior citizens that's similar to Disneyland.
Except instead of the clam chowder soup and space mountain, you have the infamous deviled eggs and mini golf/spa combo.
Everything in that park will be designed to bring out nostalgia for those that lived through the 60s and 70s.

But seriously, it's an important job, but for me there's way too much physical contact and IDK what advancement opportunities they have compared to a full doctor
I thought nurses have a good work life balance no? Just that itself is worth more in value than advancement opportunities.
Most party goers that I have met at bars and raves are usually nurses that have the weekends off.

I think it's a great job where you can leave work at work and not have to worry about it extending into your personal life.

If I was in the Stem field? I don't think I'll ever have that luxury.

Just saying, a travel RN can potentially make more than MDs and they have high union/political power and can get raises every year or so.

MDs/DOs on the other hand gets slapped by administration everyday for even asking a 1 cent raise.

It is a great time to be an RN. No risks involved if you don't do stupid shit like give the wrong meds etc.

Also, RN has a lot of room for growth to become administration and have an alphabet of letters after their name and admins love that shit.

Coming from personal experience. I do not recommend anyone going to medical school and should do nursing school instead.

If you honestly think nurses have it easy, you've never seen or known a nurse. Nurses quite often work double shifts due to the overwhelming amount of patients and duties they have to deal with.

The healthcare industry is insanely overworked and treated like shit in... pretty much every developed country. There's a reason many nurses are jumping ship, and that's just in Australia. I can't even begin to imagine what it's like in parts of the US.

There are all kinds of nurses. Some don't interact with patients directly much at all. Some have standard office hours. It's a very diverse field.

It's bad here, but you can't deny that the RN pay is decent with room to grow.

However on the other end, physicians haven't gotten a raise in over 10 years, and our workload has increased substantially and is a lot more risker compared to 10 years ago. There is no room to grow as an MD unless you invest 3+ years into doing fellowship, and taking a paycut while doing so.

It depends on where you work. My ex gf was a nurse at a clinic and the hours were stable. On the other hand, she would have made a lot more money in a less stable position.

But the work is repetitive right? I understand it's a lot of nitty gritty work with long hours, but the mental strain seems less than an MD. Dealing with factors outside your control and having to come up with solutions seems like a way more daunting task.

Yes we need more subspecalties and less primary care and internists m i rite?

I don't know what world you live in.
I work in dietetics and they treat everyone in dietetics and nutrition like shit. My ex is a pharmacist and they all treat pharmacists like shit. I have a coworker who's become a respiratory therapist and he said they treat him like shit. All of the cleaning staff says they treat them like shit. A fwb of mine is a transporter and she said they all treat her like shit.

There's a common thread here of RNs treating people like shit.

Friends,

First, my daughter is a nurse. I put her through college, it was hard, and it continues to be hard every day. she is in the mommy baby department, and EVERYDAY she sees people that SHOULD NOT HAVE KIDS!!!! I mean 2 total idiots walk in, and then 2 idiots and a baby walk out. How do you think that kid is going to turn out. what chance does he have???

I like all your other ideas. Of course I am 60 and retired. I play video games, and watch tv, and twice a week go to the university for Spanish class.

So how are you going to do this? where will you get the money? the problem is old people are cheap, frugal, and just broke. When your on like 7 medicines a day, its a big drain.

Good luck. Thank you for sharing.

Correct, with how the medical system is run, you either play the game and specialize in a desirable specialty, or live a life of burnout and low pay. Primary care and hospital medicine are a waste of an MD degree.

horrible take

horrible comparison

I want to be nice but this post is seething with so much ignorance I don't know where to start.

You can't do awful things long term for money

You can kick people out of a store. You can't easily kick people out of a hospital. Being called an "oily salesman" is mild compared to the verbal and physical abuse my nurses would endure. Some sites were better, the major trauma site was worse. Mostly drunk belligerent homeless cursing and masturbating. One nurse there told me about one in four patients would attempt to grope her. Is that worth $30 an hour?

Please stop talking about things you clearly know nothing about

maybe move on to telling airline pilots how to fly planes or something else you're equally unqualified to have an opinion of
