Unless actual legal paperwork is immediately present, we are legally required to revive you. I've had dozens of patients where the family is like "oh but s/he has a DNR / doesn't want to be revived" but then they don't have paperwork around to show us, so now we gotta be like "well....sucks brah >_>" and do CPR on them. ~~CPR only has like a 30% survival rate anyway, but still >_>~~ Even if they did file it the right way, if it isn't around for us to read right then and there, we have to react to the situation and save their life just in case it's all bullshit. We can't spend 10 minutes searching around while someone is on the floor dying when it could be a bluff by some family member looking for an early inheritance lol. Going "I wasnt sure so followed cardiac arrest protocol is MUCH better than I wasnt sure so I sat around and didnt do anything lawl >_> And for the love of our former admin SBAllah, do NOT get a Do Not Resuscitate tattoo. That is not legally binding and any self-respecting and competent healthcare provider is just gonna ignore it anyway cuz that ain't legal paperwork. Unless you're gonna draw up a long ass dictation along with your signature, your physician's signature, possibly a witness signature, and a date, you're literally just wasting ink getting that. Plus it's just stupid. tl;dr: Get paperwork in order and make sure it's around easily with family members or something. Nuances are a little different across state lines but it's generally all the same everywhere. And I guess eat your veggies so you don't become fat and die either.
