What did they literally expect from a CGI animated film by same studio who makes Minions??

Also, Chris Pratt gets waaaaay too much hate for what I considered a good voice for Mario. The movie even pokes fun of the super Italian stereotypical accent in the plumber commercial. They put Martinet as a cameo out of respect. It really covered all the bases.

There was so much fan service and references for the true diehard Mario fans. They have some oldschool comical gags too.

Mario games have always had minimal amount of story. The fact that movie ties in the old cartoons to fill in lore was brilliant too.

Oh and Jack Black IS Bowser now.

The funny thing is critics overall didn't think movie was good, but audience love it. It has grossed so much money too.

Bring on all the sequels and spin offs! Milk it as much as possible. DK spin off with a proper singing K. Rool pirate. Cute Yoshi's Island prequel with baby Mario and Luigi.

It was bad? I thought people generally liked it, even if the main thing I heard is that it's overdosed in references to all the past Mario games+ other Nintendo media.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Mario movie. I thought Chris Pratt's voice was a terrible fit after seeing the trailer, but the movie actually made it work just fine. Saw it in theaters with my gf, a friend, and my friend's gf.

i dont think its a good argument when people say stuff like it was made by the minions studio WHAT WERE YOU EXPECTING

Like youre saying the movie is good, which is a valid opinion, but at the same time implying that people shouldnt have expected a good movie going in?

The "Mushroom Kingdom, here we go!" Line from the trailer literally isn't even in the movie.

Was great! My son watches it all the time.

Some random knobs online are pretty easy to ignore. It made well over a billion, kids still love singing the Peaches song, it had a positive rating overall, and it set up a few more billion dollar productions.

That's a good thing

To be honest, the only legitimate complaint in my book was that the movie leaned a bit too heavily on needle drops rather than delving more into Mario's incredibly rich soundtrack history. There was quite a few still, obviously, but admittedly I wish that basically every scene had Mario music in it.

I still haven't seen it.

It's pretty good
The pacing is incredibly fast, but it's consistent in how fast it is, so it's not even that much of a problem

Illuminations is like the Simpsons if you took out all of the humor aimed at adults. It's like nonalcoholic beer.

You shouldnt be annoyed when people express opinions that are different than yours. Who cares? Its just a movie.

Most people I know really enjoyed it. Like everything popular, the haters are just very vocal about it

My only gripe with it is the licensed music tracks.

Like....why the fuck are they playing "Thunderstruck" by ACDC and not some actual Mario music from Mario games - which is good, more fitting, and probably costs you less to use?

You can be disappointed without being surprised, you know.

The movie was fine, I guess, but I was hoping for more than just references:the movie and came away disappointed from that perspective.

I thought it was ok, my kids liked it, works for me.

"Of course it was bad. Kids movies are bad and this was bad" is not really a defense of the movie being good.

I thought it was pretty average, which is what illumination is known for

The references and easter eggs are nice but the plot and characters could've used more development

Tbh the critic vs fan drama was more entertaining than the film itself, seeing these mfs have a meltdown over a movie review is always a treat

Just like every Mortal Kombat flim after the one with Christopher Lambert, I just stay away and realize it's not for my 'generation'. I know there are several MK feature films, and I know how to watch them. It is better if I don't.

Resident Evil was my only exception. The recent one was better, but now I like the original one with Milia Jovovich solely for the first sequence where the building turns on everyone.

It was pretty damn good. I was most worried about Luigi because that voice actor I can only handle him for a minute or two, but I really couldnt even tell it was him.

Probably just people overhyping it so much that it would be impossible to match it, or just stubborn people that wanted it done exactly how they wanted.

That's fine. I'm serious though. Ironically, this topic has reminded me that I need to get around to seeing the 'Dead or Alive' film. The franchise is buried now, I don't why it took me so long to get around to it.

As a Mario fanboy, it's a 8.5/10 for the amount of fanservice stuffed into the movie. But on its own merits? The critics got it right, it's a 5/10 mediocre movie. Without the constant fanservice, it doesn't give anything for non-Mario fans to enjoy, except for the kids. The only reason I can consider it a family movie is because a lot of Millenials now are adults so it has enough nostalgia to entertain us and has enough colorful things happening on screen for the kids to enjoy, but otherwise I consider it a kids movie.
