Even if you do cause image problems, most CRT displays have a degaussing option somewhere that will remove the kind of magnetic interference you're likely to encounter in your everyday life. I wouldn't recommend sticking a CRT in an MRI, but you'd have to really try to cause permanent damage to one at home.

I'm not even 100% on if bigger magnets do immediate permanent damage, I just thought they scrambled the picture while attached.I dont have room for a bigger one. I put a magnet near my crt PC monitor when I was like 13 and was freaking out because I broke it so I posted to CE about it and I still remember the one reply. "DEGAUSS" Then I became a brat since I could make the screen trippy and erase it. I imagine this is terrible for the life of the monitor. But oh well ... Copied to Clipboard!
