I watched this thing a looooooooooooooooooong time ago in Catholic School. Only thing I really remember was the titular song.

From what I read, it's not like the traditional story of Jesus in that it shows Jesus's human side, has him questioning God, and Judas as sympathetic. But you're right, looking up some songs I thought were late 70s at most, I guess it's not that out of place. It still has kind of a modern-ish feel tho to me. Can't really explain it.
