I was with my parents at this sandwich place in San Fran over Christmas and "You Give Love A Bad Name" by Bon Jovi came on and I was like "I love this song, I once listened to it on repeat for 4 days straight" (true, many years ago), and they asked who it was.

With a completely straight face, believing myself to be correct, I said "Billie Holiday". They laughed really hard and I realized my mistake and played along, but then looked it up. I also almost say Billy Idol. I was convinced it was Billy/ie someone.

I have been thinking about this constantly for over a month and I am still so embarrassed. Furthermore, I have no idea if they caught me or not.

Lol nice.

This is so me with my bosses . I have never understood what makes them laugh, I could say things with complete straight face and seriousness and they crack up, and I never know what their sense of humor is that makes them laugh

once someone told me that they were pescotarian and I misheard them, and thought they said "Episcopalian."

I was trying to be polite, and asked how long they had those beliefs, and the people around me started laughing :/

For the sake of you and your job, I hope it's not something INCREDIBLY wrong, like my example.

That's... not too awful, though. Pescatarianism can often come with the belief that eating meat (other than fish) is wrong, and episcopalianism is a legit religious belief, sooo...

it's been a long while, so I might have asked something else, now that I think about it, like if they were going to church or something

"Incredibly wrong" is a bit of a stretch you were talking about something as insignificant as music :P so not a big deal as any of the other subjects for conversation

Billie Holiday was a woman of color, jazz musician, and ultimately incredibly influential in the scene from the 1930s-50s.

Bon Jovi is a buttrock musician from the 80s who wrote one single song that I really like.

I'd say that's a pretty stark and "incredibly wrong" thing to say, and why my brain put it together that way is still under review.
