If a guy is open about his feelings, he gets scrutinized on not only most forums, but in real life situations as well.

Part of why men struggle so much in life is because they don't have a platform to talk or don't get treated anywhere near as good when it comes to complaining. There is a reason why many men in society are still depressed, or why they make up a large amount of incels. Because there is no proper supprot group and society perception still paints the man as the "person who should be tough"

Social Media influences a hell of a lot of people. Which includes content creators and sayings that get spread throughout society that gives an expectation of what men should be.

If we can argue that TRP is hurting men and influencing them in a negative way: Then we can also argue that the expectations of what a man should be(tall, good looking, 6 figure earner, luxury life style, pay for everything) is creating an unrealistic standard that most men can't live up to

Has happened to me in so many relationships.

Every single time you try to open up, they throw it back in your face, get mad and upset at you for having feelings, drown you out and create a bigger problem than you had before.

Not all women do this, but enough do it that it prevents men from opening up.

I'd be willing to bet that they were people they were extremely close to.

I've been burned many times and don't open up to people anymore. But even then, it's not true that this is always going to be the case. Some people just have really bad experiences, there's a lot of terrible people in the world. And yes some of those people are women. But it's important to take a step back and realize you've only met an incredibly small fraction of people. Some day you might meet someone with whom you can share anything. Are you going to push them away because someone hurt you? At that point the one hurting you is yourself.

Yea, guys generally have to control their emotions more as not to either come across as to weak or violent.

This mind set is usually pretty subtle for most but it shows enough that I guess it can be considered a closed secret of sorts.

We do, but the important thing to remember is that it's a case by case basis. I've had women who do what Shaq describes, but I've also had some that do the complete opposite. It's like a cashier dealing with customers. They've had plenty of good ones, but they usually only remember the bad ones.

It's pretty much true. Even if it's "as a joke" or meant in some supposedly benign way. Opening up about anything actually real has always felt like it just caused me more drama in the long run.

People do this.

People, when they get mad, will use anything to try to hurt you, but not what is actually relevant.

Men feeling like their feelings are hijacked for other people's means or that their feelings are supposed to serve someone else's purpose is a real thing and I'm sick of being gaslit over it. Yeah, women do this. No, not all women, not all the time. But I think most men have had an experience of opening up to a woman and being punished for it. It makes you more defensive and closed off in general.

Shaq should stfu.

I wish we'd see this kind of nuance when men are presented as abusive murdering rapists who can't hear the word no without murdering and raping, but I'd have to have something resembling expectations of y'all not being completely full of shit.
