I had a dog once that had to require a shitty special dog food thanks to a health condition. When I first got it she refused to eat it and got in a huff because she missed her meat.

But guess what? A few hours later she ate it because she realized she wasn't getting anything else. Then ate it every day, just less excitedly.

Animals won't starve to death, it goes against every instinct they have.
