You could apply that logic to just about anything, even real life. If some British soldier had shot Hitler in WW1, he would never have known what effect hed just had on the world.
Heck, its probably happened many times. Odds are that some young person died in a car crash who would have grown up to be a genocidal politician. Well never know. Of course, it works both ways.
