Im a teacher in Indiana and that seems weird to me. Permission slip to leave the property but not a classroom event in the library. To bring in a speaker I need my assistant principal to sign off on it and the speaker has to pass a criminal background check but I dont have to give my students an opt out option.
And as someone who was born there I remember no need for permission to do things that were on school grounds during school hours.

But I guess that's just how divisive certain groups existing has become for that state.

So do you have to or do you prefer to?

Because you have now said both, with your first statement presenting a lot more as a claim of fact from somebody with a lot more than having just started doing the job.

John Pace III, the deputy superintendent, and the districts general counsel, Walter Harvey, responded that any guest speaker, including a Holocaust survivor, would require parental consent.

The article even says that these forms have to be signed for any guest speaker now.

Im just pointing out how that phrase I had drilled into me in my teens (and Im not even in America) is clearly nonsense. Every time one of these only in America problems comes up like gun violence, unaffordable healthcare, Florida and Texas existing, etc. comes up is just more proof.

And before anyone wants to be a smart ass, by only in America I clearly mean among developed countries. Obviously despite all its problems that nothing can be done about, its still a better place to live than much of Africa.
One of the issues is that I'm some ways here in America we're a loosely tied group of nations more than say, provinces. It's hard AF to get one of the other states to stop doing stupid shit see, they don't have direct control over one another and the central government is specifically designed to have to fight rather than order a lot of times.

Ah one of these guys huh? Lol I got an email saying we are required to do this at the beginning of the year. In my subject we have a lot of field trips and I hand them out every time. So far i have not had the principal/ap/superintendent/police knock down my door and demand to see every sheet or I'm fired. I just turn in the sheets after the field trip/activity and never hear about it again. Idk if it's actually required or not, but I'd rather not find out.

Also I prefer it because now all of my field trip forms are the exact same format, and theoretically should be the same for all of their classes. Making it easier for busy parents or parents who don't speak English to sign it.

Does that explain why I am required to do it and prefer to do it?

The bolded are very different things.

If you're taking the kids off campus or keeping them after then yes. Taking them over to the school library during class, not so much.

Send the principal and Desantis to prison for life.

I want to believe the principal is trying to make a point about the law with some malicious compliance.

My memory may be off but isn't Florida one of the states giving funding to Prager for Prager U Kids material to teach in school?

If so: they're already working on that.

I think Prager basically invited themselves onto the curriculum without being part of the normal review process and Florda said, "Eh, why not?" and now they're authorized supplementary materials. That's my memory of it.

The whole process was fucked up when I heard about it the first time.

My man I'm not sure when you last were in a school but nowadays ANY time students are not where they usually are, before, during, or after school we try to have it documented because parents can and have gone crazy on teachers about their child not being exactly where they are technically assigned. Even if it's just down the hall.

Though this is a stupid argument because whatever individual filled out this sheet is either an idiot, racist, or just trying to stir up controversy.

And yet Florida thinks thinks giving those kinds of parents, and those without children more control over other people's children is a good idea.

Some Orange County parents were asked to sign off before their high school sophomores watched a PG-rated cartoon after school.

Gotta protect the kids from...[checks notes]...a PG-rated animated movie?!
