Havent really gone down that rabbit hole in a decade or so though. I may be misnaming it, but if you google NPC he lack filters and you ought to find setup guides. VLCs problem has always been quality. Its an easy setup that will get you most of the way there with zero effort, and its worth installing because it will play even broken / partial files, but if you put in the effort to setup MPV or MPC properly, video will look better and audio will sound better than VLC. Granted, I havent really followed that scene since I started using Plex and largely abandoned Plex for Jellyfin and Emby. So Im sure VLC is probably better now than it was. In the Jellyfin app on my Nvidia Shield Pro, I use the libvlc player as the default one will force a transcode for PGS subtitles.
