the answer is yes, but the purpose isnt clear until you complete Johnnys side quest in Costa Del Sol

35+ hours in and I've only begun exploring the Corel region. Good thing there are no other games I really planned on playing this year, because the burnout after this one is gonna last a while.

I did not expect the fucking card game to be such an absolute standout. Like, the more I think about it, the more impressed I am with its perfect balance of simplicity and strategic options. Whoever took the lead in designing Queen's Blood is very, very skilled at what they do.

2 years until Queen's Blood hits FFXIV.

I finally met my match at Queen's Blood, the very final challenger of course.

I need to update my deck since I've been pretty much using the same one for the entire game. Now I have too many cards to choose from ugh it can wait til later

Finally got Yuffie into the party, I suspected based on Intergrade she'd be my favorite to play as but didn't know for sure until putting her next to the others. Still true. Even though they did such a great job with Red!

I'm so annoyed Cloud is locked in to the party even despite them going out of their way to make every other melee character more fun to play.

Yeah, I feel like there's not really a good reason to have Cloud locked in this much. The entire party is together during most exploration segments, so even in a cutscene where Cloud is required... everyone's right there.

I mean the characters are literally still on screen in the fight even when they're not in the party, so....

While I do like some of the changes they made to Aeriths combat, I dont like how slooow it feels like to build atb with her

For real though... Why is Cloud locked in?? We have these cool synergy moves and yet we can only choose two different party members at a time? Lame.

New Game Plus I'm fairly certain you can craft parties without Cloud in them, but yeaaaah.

I don't know why it's taken so long to click how big a deal it is that everyone gets these elemental attacks in their spheregrids.

I guess they don't give Synergy points though, which is the downside.

It's a way to pressure when you don't have the right spell handy.

At least early game it's a blessing.

Yuffie/Red/Tifa would be the ideal party.

After getting Cait Sith, I set the presets like this, so everyone has synergies that lets them increase their limit level.

Cloud/Tifa/Aerith
Cloud/Red/Yuffie
Cloud/Cait/Barret

Just kept them like that and cycle through them from time to time.

Not having access to the Aerith Sunglasses Special isn't acceptable.

They are very effective against some enemies, and just lets you have every character cover every element without needing materia.

Third game needs to have in battle switching, with maybe a special attack when they switch in, like modern Tales.

I suppose that's true. I think it's never been much of an issue for me because I usually always try and run the same team so everyone's got what materia I need. If I was running every party member and swapping everyone in and out a bunch, it'd save on a lot of time not having to worry about each team having the right spells.

They also don't use mp, I relied on them a lot throughout the first half of the game, even somewhat in the later half.

But at some point naturally the materia spells are more effective and ATB is better spent on more powerful skills.

A frustration I had was that if you go into a story battle with the wrong loadout it's kind of necessary to like, assess, then realise you might be screwed and retry with the right materia

But these non-MP using magic attacks are a really handy way of mitigating that issue

It's pretty weird that you can normally do parties without Cloud in the simulator but not in the field.

I never even tried to remove Cloud from my team since he's my favorite to play as. Along with Yuffie and Cait, that was my main team.

I do agree it's stupid, but I did just confirm that he can be switched out on NG+ at least.

Cloud is party-locked in the original FF7, right? That's probably why. It's not a good reason but yeah. That and making sure to build an emotional connection between Cloud and the player.

I think you could remove Cloud in the simulator in Remake as well, but given that there was exactly one 3-person party for that no one cared to.

I really like countering with Cloud's punisher mode

Sittup minigame wouldn't be the worst thing in the game if it didn't take a full 10 seconds to reset attempts.

The load times in this game are just kinda strange. Like when you fast travel across the world, it's insanely fast. But to retry a battle or move to the next round in the simulator, it sometimes takes quite a few seconds? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Fast travel probably isn't reloading the state of the world, just moving you. Retrying stuff has to basically reload the game so that it can start fresh, which can be very slow.

That would be incredibly surprising if the entirety of the world was loaded in at all times lol. That's like, almost unheard of. These regions are massive.

I saw that they put out an interview today stating that that was indeed the case. Has to do with being able to focus on a single platform.

Assuredly related was them confirming that game will not be coming to any other consoles at any time.

That they load in the entire region at all times? Cause that's weird as fuck and not very optimized lol.

The way the chocobo all constantly look at you when you sneak around is really weird lol.
Also, the slowness of everything is really starting to get to me. I could definitely see this getting patched before too long, honestly. Well, with enough complaining(that I hope is happening.)

I havent seen how big the world is yet but it's not really unheard of. Xenoblade did it on the Wii, which is insane. Here the SSD is fast enough to be used as a really large cache for streaming so it's near instant. It's like what Spiderman's fast travel does which people thought was impossible.

The problem with reloading is it's not just streaming data from the SSD, it has to run the whole world loading process again, tons of different functions to reset things. That can take a long time and hardware can't really help.

This is absolutely not true lol. Chadley could be a bit hit or miss, though I remember him being pretty popular in the first game and it's pretty darn clear all the stuff you can get around doing is filled with love for the universe. Chadley serves more as excuse to do that open world searching but there are very good rewards in there.

Related, I just got my PS5. It was supposed to be new but the sealing sticker was ripped so it looked like a refurb or something. I asked support for a discount and they gave me $70 no questions asked.

So if y'all have good standing with Amazon you should try that on your next purchase.

What? Why would that be unoptimized? It's what makes fast travel faster. This isn't the first game to do so.

I almost have to applaud them for tripling down on the number of minigames and making them considerably more challenging than last time. Taking an already tough one (pull-ups) and then amping up the difficulty by assigning the prompts to the shoulder buttons AND adding force-sensitive button presses is... actually it's fucked up. Fuck you Square.

I haven't even tried to touch the situp minigame since the initial one. Once I saw the next round would require adaptive trigger nonsense I immediately said fuck that noise and never looked back.

Some of these minigames are just way too frustrating. Maybe I'll grow on them over time but as of now I don't see the platinum in my future.

Reunion- still on chapter 4, but Zack is level 63 and all stats maxed. Pretty much good to go on fighting Minerva I'll probably blitz through the rest of it this weekend

The question is after that do I start rebirth or do I finish off the platinum for a dragon's dogma and then do rebirth and dragon's dogma 2 back-to-back

I'm only in Junon too, also been somewhat busy. Finished up the side stuff here ready to move on. They really nailed Yuffie, like her or not.
