Brian May of Queen has a PhD in astrophysics. His thesis was titled "A Survey of Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud".

Author Michael Crichton, Monty Python member Graham Chapman, director George Miller, comedian Ken Jeong, and rap musician PJ Sin Suela all earned medical degrees.

Reminds me of how it always used to blow people's minds that the lead singer of The Offspring had a Masters degree (in Molecular Biology). He's actually upgraded it to a PhD since then.

His thesis was "Discovery of mature microRNA sequences within the protein-coding regions of global HIV-1 genomes: predictions of novel mechanisms for viral infection and pathogenicity". And he's published a paper called "Identification of Human MicroRNA-Like Sequences Embedded within the Protein-Encoding Genes of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus".
