Admittedly Im not a huge anime fan but when I like an anime it is almost always from the 80s or 90s. Im looking for more action based anime and holy hell some stuff especially from the early to mid 90s is incredible. Also its quite flashy since this was before the Porygon incident.

What are some more action based modern anime for someone looking for a lot of blood and violence?

As for your rec, Ninja Kamui is a great and bloody modern anime. They'd only 2 episodes, so far.

I know what you mean. For example Wicked City (1987) and Ninja Scroll (1993) still look amazing.

Nah, mid 90s anime in particular was mostly trash. It's not that older stuff is better, it's that we're only remembering the good shows.

seeing as old anime (15+ years old) is vastly superior, regardless if you've ever watched it before or not, the correct answer is and always will be 0% nostalgia

old anime is just better in every way and it's genuinely hard to find a single example that doesn't prove this fact, new anime is guaranteed garbage >99,9% of the time

it's become an optimized-for-profit, digital-only, mass-produced, low-quality, copy-paste cheap material product, with extremely oversaturated samey boring plots, settings and characters
usually a single screenshot of any modern anime is more than enough to tell you what the entire series is about and how it will play out, because you've already seen it countless times over

The animation and detail from the good stuff of back then absolutely the crushes the animation from good stuff now. Even the high production series now still use lot of streamlining to skip some things. They use it will, but it still doesn't come close to what would have been.

Both. It also depends on what you're looking for in a series. Every few years there's a popular genre that pollutes the scene for a few years, so sometimes there'll be an abundance of media for certain people.

One explanation I've heard for why older anime is better is because back in the 90s anime was much more niche, so companies would only bother to bring over the most popular stuff.

For me this is a key component. Its not nostalgia to say I like hand drawn or the style from an older generation as compared to now. Thats not to say no newer hand drawn stuff exists. It does, but its not common like it was.

The overreliance on CGI and the inability for most studios to evolve in its usage is the biggest problem.

A better explanation is survivorship bias. People forget about the garbage over time, only leaving the tiny example of good stuffs. Hence why you hear the same couple songs/bands on the classic radio channels. It's not that there weren't thousands of crappy bands, it's that basically no one remembers them. If you go back to that time period you'll have people like Miyazaki saying that modern anime is garbage and has been since the 80's: it's always nostalgia.

It's ok. I like it enough to recommend it, but it wasn't what I was hoping it was.

It undeniably looks better
But the trade off is that fan art fucking sucked back then and is as great as it's ever been nowadays.

That's definitely nostalgia if you don't think any modern anime are good. There's a ton of very well animated action anime out there.

I've absolutely been loving it. It's not constant action, so some people don't like it. But the story and characters are very well written. The main character goes on a journey and there's just lots of little moments where you start to see her motivations and growth as a person. So far, this is looking to be one of my top anime that I will recommend to people going forward.
