First-elected transgendered senator Danica Roem asks how many votes it would pass a bill; the president of the senate (Winsome Meyers) responds and misgenders them. Danica Roem walks out, and the President of the Senate responds after that she isn't here to upset anyone, and wants to treat people with respect and dignity, yet asks she be respected in return.

Imagine following a religion that teaches love, kindness, acceptance, turn the other cheek, treat others how you want to be treated, and going out of your way to be a hateful sack of shit. And they think it's okay because they hold up their bibles and live in the myth that they are the good guys because of some buried passage, entirely ignoring the LITERAL first rule that says it's not a human's place to judge anyone.

And lo and behold "But it's happened to me" non-apology. You'd think that would make someone more aware of being respectful. At least it seems the rest of the chamber was like "You fucked up" and was able to at least get that out of her.

Not to defend The Prez's terrible lack of apology, but bailing because you were misgendered is not the right response. She's en elected representative of the people and should continue doing her job, even if she rightfully feels offended. Shit, even speak up and correct the Prez's ass, and continue to do so when she misgenders you, but don't fucking bail on your people--it's not about you but the people you represent.

Oh, the president would be even more upset at being corrected and would find that more disrespectful. And a lot of times, just leaving is a great course of action to avoid escalating, because it removes you from the situation and any chance of you making it worse.

And I would say the same if the president was casually denied her identity too
