It's a good song but one of the 4 best, most iconic Beatles songs of all time, really? Am I missing where its popularity is coming from?

Once upon a time, my mom was pregnant when she heard Here Comes The Sun with George Harrison singing on the radio...and now I'm named after one of the Beatles.

I flip-flop if Here Comes The Sun is a top-four song of theirs or not, but the song definitely has popularity and personal impacts for people. It's just a beautiful song that's unique in their library. If you feel like Mt. Rushmore should represent more than just Lennon and McCartney, Here Comes The Sun feels like a pretty easy next choice.

I was looking to know if there was a larger cultural reason like "it was the end theme of an anime" or something like that. I was very surprised to see it was their most played on Spotify by such a large margin.

For the record, when we did Rank the Tracks on Abbey Road, the group opinion put it #2 (behind Something). I personally had it #9. So, my opinion is a bit out of sync with others on it. But thankfully it didn't make the Rushmore!

Oh nice, my vote for the Beatles topic ended up winning. That's neat considering it was a pretty competitive one

This won't explain it fully in the way you're seeking, but the play VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE by the late Christopher Durang was a 2013 Tony-winner. That show at one point talks about how music used to be good, and then it ends with Here Comes The Sun.

I don't know a closer example beyond that, and I would predict Here Comes The Sun was already held in similar esteem before this play came out about a decade ago. Still!
