I have the SMT4 and Strange Journey carts, but I haven't put much time into them... and Apocalypse is forever lost

apoc is like a sequel, you want to play 4 before playing it

Atlus did a very poor job of explaining that Apocalypse is a sequel. I think you get a couple of trinkets for importing a save from 4 or something but its an entirely new game that takes place after the events of 4 and is just as long.

its not horrible, its just so strange in that they had better than usual characters and a cool story and aesthetic and then dropped the ball in the gameplay where usually smt is the opposite lmao
the dungeons suck and for some reason all have the same music track??? not to mention they have a tarturus ass dungeon you have to continuously slog through to get character development
its just so weird in the ways it falls short
im still so puzzled about the dungeon music, the ost is fantastic....except in the parts you spend most of the game in

Its on GamePass and regularly goes on pretty deep discount in Steam sales these days. Normally I consider "Its on GamePass" to be pretty damning for how much of a waste of time a game must be to bother with but pretty much any SMT content is at least worth checking out.

Anyway as other people have said Apocalypse is a full sequel, it's pretty good but it's clear they wanted to make it more like Persona/traditional JRPGs than SMT by adding more party members with more wacky personalities. The story and characters also kinda blow and tries to be too cheerful for my liking unless you go a certain route.

surprisingly enough I actually really liked the new party, i think since smt 4 is so tragic this new timeline being a lot more cheerful worked for me, like this is the good ending this world deserved after all its been through

Apocalypse felt like it was better balanced than 4.

Fire emblem awakening and SMTIV were busted

not sure why I can't get into Fire Emblem at all, since I like strategy games

I liked some of the party members like the kid with the jacket, and the guy with the spear, but I hated the rest as they felt like generic anime trope characters. I'm also extremely cynical and I really liked the message about friendship hypocrisy the game sends if you do the "evil" route.

yeah jacket and spear are my favs too lol, im also a big fan of the "you can pick an ending you weren't building towards if you want but fuck you" mechanic they started here
