Ill freely admit the pervy nature of Zenitsu does kinda ruin his character for me. Does some amazing things in Demon Slayer and almost always follows it up with some cringe perv stuff.

If you have watched Fairy Tail or Naruto, then you have seen some pervert a-holes.

That story and those characters were amazing, except sometimes the fanservice, depictions of perversion, and overall sexuality made it hard to watch.

Would be a 10/10 for me without that shit.

It's been bought up a few times already, but part of the problem is that shonen anime is intended for kids and teenagers. Sex jokes of varying kinds tend to be funny at that age, but grown ass adults have usually matured out of it.

Personally, I find it tasteless, as well, but it's a different culture (though i like to imagine a well adjusted japanese adult wouldn't be too thrilled about it, either) and at any rate I don't often watch this sort of anime. If you're concerned about juvenile humour, maybe stop watching juvenile works.

You wouldn't criticise a preschool show for being a bit heavy handed in its lessons, after all.

It does make it all the more annoying that even if there is an it pair in a show that yeah they deem consensual PDA unsuitable for TV, in the same stuff that does have pervy humor.

I was sort of accounting for cultural differences when I made that statement. I personally didn't find that sort of shit funny as a kid, but other works, such as, say, Austin Powers since it has already been bought up, I did watch as a kid (probably far earlier than I should have done) and I found it hilarious, even though i had little understanding of what sex even was back then. Most of my friends would similarly get up to juvenile giggling whenever sex was implied. I'm guessing it keeps happening because Japanese youth actually enjoy it. And, again, I imagine that mature Japanese adults don't think too highly of it.

But the real point is that you're probably not the target audience for this. If you're going to insist on watching it, you're going to have to tolerate the less ideal tropes. Much like how a YA novel is probably going to have melodrama that seems increasingly silly the older the reader gets.

Having interests in sexual topics isn't the issue, its the sexual assault damn near all of these characters commit that is. Worse still is when these acts are the only remotely sexual things two or more characters ever do in the anime or manga; it's like the Japanese would rather teach their youth not to respect women over educating them on proper interactions and dating

Ive seen writings from older mangaka like Rumiko Takahashi that make it clear that they include those types of characters/gags precisely because they found humor there. Plus the history of the sex comedy genre showing it was hardly limited to Japan. Theres a point where weve moved away from finding certain things funny, but not sure why youre acting like nobody never did.

Honestly a lot of the harrumphing feels like its missing the forest for the trees like back when people were constantly whining about tsunderes. Actually handling the archetype better does more than readers complaining about it. Examples like Utena/Magia Baiser shows that you can have someone be a degenerate and have solid character writing. Then theres shit like Rosen Garten Saga that makes most works seem tame and revels in how crazy it can be.
