If they left off to war, would you find it easier to consider them dead already?

No, that seems like a really odd thing to do.

No. What an absurd notion.

It's like dropping off your kid at the school gate in the morning and when you get back home, clearing out their room because you've emotionally already written them off as having been killed in a school shooting.

No. Plenty still die in war but the numbers are astronomically lower than older wars. Think it was a few years into the war with Afghanistan I saw the death toll was only I'm the thousands.

I personally knew a guy who had 3 trucks blown out from under him. He's still kicking.

No, that's just crazy.

I mean, yeah, it is, in the sense that it's an extreme coping response. It is a phenomenon, though.

Depends, where do I live in this scenario?

If I live in Russia, then yes.

If it was earlier wars, such as the World Wars, probably. I would for Vietnam as well if the government hadn't suppressed U.S. losses to keep pro-war enthusiasm back home.

In modern wars? It's the safest it's ever been for U.S. soldiers, so the odds are in their favor.

I wouldn't disown him, however there's also nothing noble or laudable about participating in recent U.S. wars, so I certainly wouldn't call them a hero either.

No one questioned it being a phenomenon. Theres a coping phenomenon for almost all human actions including rape and murder. I don't care how someone tries to cope to disown their child.

It's still a crazy thing to do.

Being proud of the kid is entirely another story though which would all depend what my kid went to war for, and what the kid did during that war, how much of a "choice" my kid have in going to war, etc. Obviously I wouldn't celebrate my kid being a rapist or war criminal.

If I were to get a kid, and this eventually happened (assuming no societal rapid collapse or really bad things in general happening to the world), then that would be grounds for disowning.

If this were just some guy saying this... I would not cry. Hard to do worse with a gun than humanity has managed without in the past when it comes to torture and rape and the combination of the two.

Its saying something that a few months back, I actually thought "hey what is 4chan up to these days" and looked. I did not cry. I was just disappointed.
