At the rate we're going, furries are going to become the next hot button social issue. Especially if state legislators try to pass laws like that crazy one in Oklahoma.

The internet is running out of acceptable targets slowly but surely. Furries are acceptable targets now, but that might not be the case forever.

The difference is the demographic, I would say. A very high percentage of people who identify as furries are members of the LGBTQIA+ community. At some point, people might realize that by taking easy shots at furries, they're also taking shots at marginalized groups almost by default.

Fox news has totally done stuff with furries, even interviewed them at least 3-4 times. One being a therian as bonus, because they gotta really drill it in that "people identify as a wolf, for real"

I cannot express how much of a compliment it feels when I get accused of being like a feline, when I'm totally just being normal. Apparently I exhibit an aura or vibe without even trying.

I'm talking about "acceptable targets." Even some people here who are pretty left-leaning and otherwise tolerant have a specific disgust regarding furries. The same people who would never attack someone for being LGBT would totally make fun of somebody just for being a furry.

A lot of people get socialized into furry bashing not knowing its thinly veiled queer bashing

i think there's a difference between someone's gender identity/pronouns, and whether or not someone pretends to be a blue wolf, and i think it's reductive to conflate things like this

There's a difference, yeah, but there's a massive overlap between the furry community and the LGBT community. The venn diagram tends to be pretty close together.

In regards to Fox news.
The one they interviewed initially identified as a wolf. Then in a follow up interview didn't, and came off like "oh it's just a fad" type of response. It came off as fairly dismissive. Then there's one with Jesse Watters twice interviewing someone in a fursuit that ran one of a cons, iirc. I don't recall how that one went.

That said, I don't think they were hostile to them, but I have heard them randomly rip into people that identify or associate with animals in the sense. Currently they're flipping out about the peanut butter toe licking highschoolers.

Currently, it's not considered hate or bigotry to single out furries for ridicule. I think over time that sentiment will change. Give it a bit.

That being said, you can be a furry and not advertise that about yourself 24/7 if you aren't normally catering to furry content.

That being said, you can be a furry and not advertise that about yourself 24/7 if you aren't normally catering to furry content.

According to some, you're not allowed to be a furry after the age of 30, because "you're too old" and they call you a creep. Some also say you're supposed to out grow it anyways, like video games, so that shows that some are only really into it as a fad thing or gatekeeping. I do find it amusing some of the younger ones are trying to gatekeep it from the older ones, the ones that laid the damn foundation for it to even exist as it does now.
