20yo Air National Guard worked at a post where he was around sensitive documents (though he himself wasnt allowed access to it)
Printed out documents on a secure printer when no one was around and took them home (since phones arent allowed in these areas)
Posted them on some Minecraft discord for months just to impress random Youtubers lol
Documents were all foreign intelligence and had stuff like data on Russia and Ukraine, weaknesses in Ukraine's military, and spies in various countries

That's probably War Thunder (a tank fighting game). Some officer leaked classified tank specs to win a debate with someone on the forums.

This has happened multiple times too by various people lol. It's basically a meme at this point over there

There's been 3 tanks that I know of that had classified info leaked due to war thunder. The challenger 2, the leclerc, and maybe the type 59? It's one of the chinese tanks so stick 2 digits after Type and you've probably got it.

It was mildly funny that the devs had to explicitly instruct Discord members to not leak confidential/classified information.

This is harsher than most murderers and rapists, not to mention how many child predators use discord and dont get punished for it.

That's more time than the guy who disclosed the locations of our nuclear submarines, Middle Eastern intelligence assets, or satellite capability and technology got.

I think it was this story because the guy was claiming he had access to highly classified document in discord and when nobody believed him he posted them.

He doesn't get sentenced until September. Probably won't get that much. I mean how important could that information have actually been if it's left laying around for any dumb grunt to look at it.

It was all foreign intelligence as well as some of the identities of spies in other countries. I think he's still locked up so agents from other countries cant gain access to him and try to sneak him out for intel. So it must be important enough >_>

The people he wanted to impress have already forgotten him. He did it all for nothing.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, his leaks forced Ukraine to delay their southern advance b/c he gave away all the plans, giving Russia several more months to harden the defensive lines and prepare.
We may never know how many Ukrainian soldiers that fuck wad got killed.
I hope he rots for the maximum sentence.

If the information was accurate and highly sensitive and he wasn't allowed access to it, why did he have access to it? You'd think something that important would be kept locked up or on an encrypted drive. Almost sounds like a sting operation to catch potential leakers.

The protocols were a little looser then. He worked in the same room doing whatever but didnt have access to the terminals or authorization to view the documents. idk

Cause it seems like an extreme punishment considering how grooming is so widespread and supported by the company itself, and the government does virtually zero about it. Seems like some people ITT are so mad at some republican teenaged shithead in their eyes and want to throw the book at him that they are overlooking the fact that discord has way worse issues about it, child sexual abuse is so much worse than delaying a military operation that it doesnt even compare.

You can have access to a SCIF but not inherently have permissions to view the same documents. When people get lax about security (e.g. not locking their screen before walking away), it becomes easier for people with physical access to your desk to get a hold of things that they would normally wouldn't.

I guess that's why I have to take Cybersecurity training every year and it's full of shit like "don't click weird emails, don't leave your terminal logged in, don't have people follow you into secure areas, etc." lol

They settled that one pretty quickly, but fatass Donald is still running for President while being protected every which way he can. Fucking pathetic.
