No, I don't think I cared for a single one. I wouldn't call any of them bad, but they were an absolute waste of time for someone with no interest. Now, Shakespeare was fucking terrible. I have no idea where anyone got the idea that reading a fucking play in what's for all intents another fucking language was supposed to teach anyone.

The only one I really enjoyed was One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Books like The Outsiders and Of Mice and Men were just too dull compared to the Fantasy or Sci-Fi I would have been reading in my spare time.

To Kill A Mockingbird is peak.

Scarlet Letter is not as fun a read cuz its older but its an interesting story. However you better be ready to teach it well because it will be easy for it to fly over the heads of high schoolers.

I actually loved this book. it was the first time I experienced the thrill of a story and enjoyed reading.

Before all the other books we were forced to read made me think reading sucked. Especially othello and taming of the shrew. Bleh.

Scarlet Letter was written in the 19th century and set in the 17th. It takes real talent to make something like adultery in Puritan New England bloated and boring but Hawthorne pulled it off.

I liked The Giver from middle school >_>

I also read some book in freshman year of high school where there was like a whole page of the MC describing his girlfriend and he went over the hot striped top she was in and her breast size and her hair. It was pretty hot to read >_> I forget the name of the book tho. The rest of the book has nothing to do with that and was kinda serious from what I remember

My school made me read the lord of the rings books as a freshman. When the films started coming out the next year I wasnt interested because I was previously forced to study those things. I didnt even mind the books, but its hard to enjoy things you associate with stress, like tests & essays and stuff.

My personal hell is Issac Dinesons Out of Africa reading that book turned me off of reading completely. In the 20+ years afterwards Ive never read another book (comics not withstanding) again.

This book taught me how to bullshit an essay just by reading the back of the bookor spark notes if they existed at the time.

Prior to my freshman year I would read my moms books once she was done. Lots of Stephen King, Peter Benchley, and Michael Crichton. Even some HG Wells.

I also read at least 20 Goosebumps from start to completion. But being forced to read Out of Africa killed my love for reading.

When I die, I somehow end up in hell, Im just going to be forced to read this shit for all eternity.

I reread The Outsiders a year ago and honestly I thought it was amazing. I think a lot of it is sort of lost on kids of that age where I mostly remembered it as "wow look at all those punk kids beating each other up isn't that wild"

it's pretty short too, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who read it years and years ago for class to read it again, it feels totally different

Mockingbird and Letter were not so bad. If I had to reread a certain number of school books, those would make the list.

It was Great Gatsby, Great Expectations, Of Human Bondage, Death of a Salesman, Ivan Ilyich, Metamorphosis...

There was tons of garbage school reading that put your picks to shame.

Became my favourite book immediately upon reading it in high school

Still get annoyed when the main criticism I see of it is "Holden is an annoying whiny dick"

Since when did a main character have to be a good guy?

The more I think about it the book was kind of visionary. Holden is basically the prototype incel.

He's more just the prototypical teenager I think - but it's still amazingly ahead of its time

The scenes in the beginning with his friends(not that he really likes them much) in the school dormitory, it's so crazy to me those chapters were written in the 1940s. I've been there, I've had those conversations

Yeah, a lot of them are classics for a reason.

I still stand by the fact that Scarlet Letter is one of the worst books Ive ever read though. A great messageed, wrapped up in some of the most fluffed p-up, flowery, long-toothed tripe Ive ever had the misfortune of reading. Its painfully boring, as dull as the time period, and really thinks it is better than it is.
