i wish the nonary games release wasn't a bad way to play 999 (personal psa to anyone blind on it please get the ds version instead) but besides that this is obviously superb value

I don't have any problem with the updated version besides the final puzzle, which, you know, sucks ass.

The voice acting is great!

And obviously the music quality is much higher.

I've been recommending 999 to someone recently and bought them the steam version, how bad is it really? (the ds version is sort of an option but it would be a pain in the ass)

the voice acting is fine but the fact that the whole dual screen/novel and adv mode dialogue is split up and you know, that's kind of really important for the plot makes it really awful. if you're on adv mode you just completely miss over half of the game's script and i hate that that's all you ever see on video playthroughs and stuff

also the game just isn't really suited for the flowchart system

I remember the reason I quit 999 and took months to go back to it was BECAUSE it doesn't have a flowchart system.

Couldn't you not even auto-advance already read text in the DS version, or am I remembering that wrong?

you could, it's just unlocked after an initial run iirc

Hmmm, it's been a loooooong time since I beat the DS version, so it's definitely hazy.

i remember it actually took me way longer than that before i even realised it was a thing, like i think i'd done at least coffin ending and axe ending before learning it had speedup

Yea you could, I've only played the DS version. I actually lent my copy to a friend who ended up misplacing it sadly.
