gonna have to disagree. 2D sonic had some really good ones but there were still a few that fell flat or weren't as good as they were hyped to be. 2D mario games include some of the best platformers ever made, and while there are a few that are average at best and don't stand out at all, there's so many at this point that mario just kinda wins out by sheer number.

but yeah most 3D sonic tends to be kinda ass.

I would disagree on the 2D front, even as a fan of 2D Sonic. 2D Mario is just in a class of its own, nothing compares to it. 2D Sonic is easily in top 5 2D platformers though.

3D Mario easily beats out 3D Sonic, but pretty much everything beats out 3D Sonic except maybe Bubsy 3D. That doesn't make 3D Mario good though, just better by default.

Just curious, which ones

2 and 3&k were amazing, but sonic 1 was ass. then you had the advance games which as far as i know have sadly never had a port. there are some other okay games but they're all kinda forgettable. i'd say the same about a lot of the "3D" mario sidescrollers too. they're rarely bad, but nothing really stands out about them to make them interesting.

wonder is pretty good though, i keep meaning to go back to it.

The vast majority of 2D Mario games shit all over every Sonic game.
