The action gets more over the top and Matrix-esque as you get into the sequels. Not saying thats a bad thing, just that some might not prefer it.

It gets better. It bugged me that a lot of the action choreography in the first felt so copy-and-paste (how many times can you watch Keanu Reeves flip a guy on the ground, shoot someone in the head, then shoot the guy on the ground in the head, then peak back and forth around corners or peoples' heads while... shooting people). But they did a good job branching out and making the sequels a little more engaging I think.

I enjoyed 4, but I was feeling pretty fatigued with the series by the end of part 3. And The Continental was only just OK IMO.
