Remake flows better but I prefer Rebirth just for the amount of stupid fun moments and mini games. Just seeing the gang hang out and get involved in goofy stuff is great.

I don't agree Remake flows better. Sure, if you walk around doing all the side content but Remake has more filler story content as I see it.

I'm not finished with Rebirth yet so can't at story wise but up to chapter 9 it's been a blast.

There's a couple very loud people that like to spam their complaints.

Definitely Remake.

About half of Rebirth is bad, lots of awful filler content. However, Rebirth does have some really, high highs that I loved a lot, the middle is really good.

At the end of the day I beat Remake 3 times, twice in a row, and did everything. I completely skipped almost all the side content in Rebirth for the back half of the game and I will never play it again. By the end of it it felt like I was fulfilling an obligation, that it was a game In had to beat just because.

So far, Rebirth has completely exceeded my expectations.

Remake's filler is so much worse than Rebirth's.

So far, Rebirth. Remake was great, but I really enjoy exploring Rebirth's world so much more.

No one has said anything about hating Rebirth though, the complaints come from a place of love I believe.

It could be much closer to a perfect game if some aspects were a little more polished.

I spend most of my time bitching about the game but it's still like a solid B for me.

Disc 1 outside Midgar was my favourite part of original game and Rebirth exceeded the hype I had for it

this too, maybe "mediocre" is too harsh but I replayed Remake and Intermission right before Rebirth released and yeah. going to be hard to ever replay that when the superior Rebirth is right there (though I'm sure I will in 3-4 years before Part 3 releases)

This. Im 19 hours in and it feels like Ive done stuff in the main story that would take like 90 minutes in the original.

Remember, criticizing media is the absolute worst thing you can do, and deserves out-grouping from enthusiast communities. We took media literacy out into the alley and shot it in the back of the head, repeatedly. Marketing hype rules all.

And of course, no gamer has ever changed their tune about a newly released game after the initial hype period cooled.

You'll also find more to bitch about when your priority is to not miss being a part of the unicorn overlord discourse. It's very different experience where you're instead taking the time to take everything in.

I haven't played either but Rebirth looks a hell of a lot more fun than being stuck in Midgar for a full game.

I voted Remake but I think it'll change by the time I'm through with Rebirth. It's just taking forever to get through it...

I lean remake but i enjoyed both

Personally Ive been avoiding that topic until I finish the game. As others have said it is much easier to complain and thats what gets discussion and engagement. When there was the FFXVI topic last year I posted a lengthy writeup full of criticisms, but thats still like, a solid 7-7.5/10 game.

I've never understood the filler complaints about remake. I never once thought, huh this feels like unnecessary filler. And to say so confidently that Remake has so much worse filler than Rebirth feels crazy even when I'm only like 1/3 of the way through Rebirth and it's just constantly throwing filler at me like crazy. Both filler mini games and just filling time with how goddamn slow everything in the game is.

I liked all of the Remake content except the Ghosts Junkyard stuff. I could've gone without that.

Everything with the Whispers sucks and adds nothing to the game.

As for slow parts, the trek to the reactor where you have to turn the lights on and off in Remake is slower than anything in Rebirth!

I guess at the end of the day what feels fillery is going to be subjective, I am also somebody whose favourite part of OG FFVII is post Midgar up to the Northern Crater, so Im going to be more amenable to what Rebirth expands on. There hasnt been anything so far where Im thinking okay, wrap it up like at a few points in Remake but I can see that going the other way for someone else.

What I will say about Rebirth is, it definitely does a much better job of handling its side content than XVI. Both in terms of the quality of the content and keeping it to the side. Rebirth seems pretty tailored for people who want to mainline it as well as those who want to explore, while XVI not only very visibly surfaces every side quest it puts major story and character beats behind them. Also XVIs exploration is not good and I like Rebirths a good amount.

Then you have to walk slooooowly through a burning village, then even more slowly press the shoulder buttons while Sephiroth just stands there with guns pointed at him.

The amount of time Rebirth wastes on stupid shit is honestly kinda ridiculous. As much as I love the game, it still suffers from busywork and generic open world nonsense.

Floor vacuuming is bad yeah. But it doesn't take that long. Thankfully all the bad slow parts of Rebirth have been relatively brief.

The buggy is the longest lasting sucky thing I've encountered as of yet.

I like the buggy. Sending it driving off of cliffs is great.

It's alright, but the chocobo is way more nimble. I wish summoning/getting into it was faster too.

Sometimes it won't let you teleport to buggy, and I'm like, OK.

And then the reason I can't teleport to buggy is that's one of the specialized buggy parking zones.

So because it an actual buggy parking space I have to teleport on foot and then get into the buggy instead.

Like.....what?

Oh yeah that is an issue, and you cant see where you left it on the map. I love driving around in it though, it feels surprisingly good. It could have been like the Mako (no relation) from Mass Effect for instance!

I've been moaning about some of Rebirth's misteps but it's one of the best games Square's ever made. Remake was pretty decent.
