Where someone goes onto someone else's computer, looks around for clues, and guesses the password is the child's name in the photo, the name of a statue that's in the room, etc.

Just make it not-password protected; what's the point wasting like 3 minutes on that bullshit that no one ever does?

Having a shitty password is one of many "acceptable breaks from reality" we need to rely on to make movies work.

My passwords are basically impossible to guess, here's one of my old retired passwords.

Literally only comfortable sharing this as I no longer use that one anywhere.

The commercial says that Church isn't for perfect people, I guess that's why I'm an atheist.

Or Kingdom Hearts 2, where the first password is seven names and the guessers get the order of the names and the formatting for them correct on the first try.

The second password is "Sea-salt ice cream" and they also get that formatting right on the first try, spaces and hyphens be damned.

Same, I've always found it pretty annoying. This super evil, genius villain keeps all of their most important files and documents locked behind a password that's incredibly simple to crack. They don't even use any caps or numbers or symbols or nothing. Like, what? You can launch a satellite that can shoots nukes at the world but you can't remember a random string of letters/numbers/etc to protect your files?

I don't get the "mastermind-style" movie password mechanisms, where you can crack a character at a time and somehow see your progress.

This one was actually kind of funny. You have to understand that the exact phrase "Sora, Donald, Goofy" is AT LEAST ten percent of the game's dialog. Always in that order, and only rarely with an "and." They generally say it at least twice per world. Observe:

https://youtu.be/Vd5QZrJDV2U?si=EFWeZ9aNc_F7SElB

So when Tron tells them "you all--my friends--are the new password" it kind of couldn't be anything else. And Leon's nod that shows he understands immediately just makes it even funnier.

XD you're right. Tron really changed the password to probably the third most common phrase in the KH universe. The only less secure passwords woulda been darkness and heart.

NBC Life had a dead drug dealer that had hidden his digital contacts and sales list on an Xbox.
To open them, you needed to complete level 10 in the then currently newest Prince of Persia game.
The game, which didnt even have numbered levels, was also extremely hard, and they needed the help of a gamergirl to get to, and complete, level 10, which opened Microsoft Office.

The funny thing is you can totally see how they would end up writing something like that. Just imagine a bunch of old people in a room 20 years ago trying to appeal to a younger audience by including "vidja-ma-gaems" somehow.

Reminds me of a Swedish crime movie from around 1998/1999.
Subway stations starts to get their powers cut a few minutes, and when the power returns somebody have always died.
In the end, we learn that homeless kids lives underground and plays Ultimate Doom (all videogame footage is from Marathon 2). They have contacts with other kids groups all around the world, and they have started to compete in getting real life gibs. Somehow they got their hands on nightvision goggles.
