Hell right before I logged off I went to the morgue to revive the dude who tells you investigate stuff in Vermund because he went MIA after a couple of field bosses invaded the city like on Saturday and I figured he was dead and at the morgue and sure enough he was

It is pretty meh and only convenient if you want to (very slowly) level up your other vocations. I'm essentially a Magick Archer that's leveling up everything else while I steamroll with slightly reduced stats

I feel like the special classes could have more obvious quests. I'm like 40 hours in and missed Sigurd and the spear class, could have unlocked it early in the game.

I just unlocked the trickster class a couple hours ago after walking right past it days ago lol. The path was already clear on my map I guess I just forgot to walk into the giant temple

But yeah I cheated for the Warfarer vocation and accidentally looked it up when I was trying to figure out what some drunk at a sauna wanted to drink

yeah, i don't have magic archer or warfarer. i didn't want to look a bunch of shit up before even playing, but it's like if you don't, you're just gonna miss it, then by the time you backtrack for it, there's not a lot of game left

Why are all the caves I've been in have blocked off exits? I fought for my god damn life against an ogre in a cave with a quarter of my max health cuz I couldn't find a camp nearby only to get to an exit completely blocked. Then I found another exit that was completely blocked. So I had to go all the way back to the entrance smh

I remember farming Grigori for weapons in that endgame area in the big red church area in the first game & actually being able to solo enough to get good gear to use elsewhere in the game, that being gone completely but also not having any new way to earn gear & use it in any dungeon like ever fall is pretty disappointing.

I think I'll just not with DD2 for awhile, maybe in August it'll be better halfway to the expansion

sad to say it, but i agree with people saying 2's a disappointment, Dark Arisen's better, etc. the game has been a massive timesink, and i found myself asking why i'm playing, and not having an answer besides sunk cost. without even knowing it, a quest in battahl took me right to the end of the game, so i loaded a previous save, but now i'm just sitting here like, what the fuck do i do now? just backtrack and wander around for hours, hoping there's at least a couple more late-game quests i didn't miss? what's the point? just to get a couple pieces of gear that are worse than what you can buy at the last shop before the boss? where were all the cool dungeons like the first game had? i explored plenty, nothing fucking happens in the game world, no quests take you on a big adventure, you just walk from one city to another, over and over until the game ends

and then there's the endgame area. it's fucking timed. run out of time, start new game+ automatically, no new content, shotgun through the main quest, start the timed endgame, run out of time, automatically start new game+, shotgun through the main quest, etc etc. there's no point

Nah. Ive been having a blast just roaming around the world and exploring. The world has been far more engaging here than it ever was in the first game. The story is also, at least so far, about what I expected after how lackluster it was in the first. The only legitimate complaints Ive seen thus far have been the odd choices of monsters not to includeafter they said they went all outand some of the very odd choices with vocations (breaking some up, not bringing others back, etc.).

Other than thatits more of the same. Did you just expect more given the limitations of game design at the time of the first?

i don't think i expected anything the first one didn't offer. and i played that one without the infinite ferrystone, the walking wasn't as bad to me then. maybe the stretches are bigger in this one, but they aren't really full of things to do to justify the plodding back and forth. i haven't seen any legit dungeons or major areas to explore that aren't small caves, and the random events are just "culling" a few wolves. there was one moment where i thought i was finally in for an epic adventure through an ancient temple, but i was... wrong, lol

it kind of seems to me like they went hard on no fast travel and bigger stretches of land to walk to justify skimping out on areas to explore and artificially pad out your play time. and like i said, i could go wander around, but to what end? fight goblins, find a helmet that's worse than what you can buy at the third area of the game, dick around for a few more level gains, go fight the boss, credits roll. the pacing is weird once you get to battahl, they HURRY you right to the end of the game if you don't know where to stop. anyway, the difference is, now there's no end/postgame content to mess with. i didn't expect too much, they subtracted from the first game

I was being too harsh/negative against you. I recognized that after thinking more on it and I apologize. I think part of the reason why I might be enjoying this so much is because I didnt expect much.

Ill admit I enjoyed DDA quite a bit for what it was at the time, but the game had major flawsnamely a bland, empty world that I dont feel encouraged exploration and wildly unbalanced classes (though I did love my mystic knight turret). Despite that, I never did finish BBI because I eventually lost interest with the game and thought it average in the end.

I didnt expect much with 2 and I only bought it after getting absorbed in some marketing stuff a few days before release (along with leaked gameplay I saw). I also wanted a break from Rebirth. So far, though, I have been exploring just running around, leveling vocations, and just doing whatever Ive come across. The main quest hasnt been anything to write home about, but I do stand by my statement that the story in the first is just as generic if not more than it is here.

no worries, your original post didn't seem particularly harsh to me. anyway, i was engrossed at first as well, i was loving my first several hours, then i sort of hit this wall of realization. this is it. it's not going anywhere. i experienced everything the game had to offer within just a couple nights, and it took the wind out of my sails. the dumb stuff like dragonsplague is just the rotten cherry on top

regarding the story and quests in general, i won't get into it for spoilers' sake, but... things seem to just... stop. i don't really know how else to explain it. the game seems to forget everything it told you and says "actually go to the end now, forget that other stuff"

i will say, there seem to be two points of no return, the coronation- do not attend that until you've done everything you want in the early game, and delivering wyrmslife crystals to a guy in battahl, do not do that until you've done everything you want in battahl

I'm not disappointed by the game. I'm quite enjoying it still. I've played sparingly over the last week or so, and my character is level 25. I can't say I'm disappointed that this game feels just like Dragon's Dogma 1.5 instead of Dragon's Dogma 2, but all I wanted was more Dragon's Dogma. I'm hoping the DLC addresses a lot of the complaints associated with the game. The high CPU cost in town is unacceptable. I have a current Gen PC and a current Gen CPU. My 7600x should not be a bottleneck.

damn im still in the low level 30s atm. last night I played for a few hours doing a couple quests around the capital. I tried earning gold through pawn quests. ended up an extra 20k gold in a few hours. i wasn't able to find cyclops all that much. i believe ogre quests would be more efficient since i stumbled on like 5 without even trying.

I got maelstrom and im close to getting meteoron. just need to camp outside the house for a few ingame days to give the last few grimoires. apparently you get an extra reward if you turn in 3 grimoires 1st and then wait a few days to turn in the rest. i hate this style of questing tbh.

oh and each forgery took about 2 days of waiting. i had no fucking idea you could just doze off in any bench so i was looking for campsites since i didn't wanna pay for an Inn. lol

My issues are those that can be fixed with patches. Fix the performance issues is mostly what I want right now. I'm still enjoying the core loop of the gameplay, so don't wait for my opinion on that. I'm enjoying just exploring and filling out my map. The battles, while numerous, aren't so insurmountable that I can't blitz through them in a few seconds. I'm far less annoyed by the frequent battles and skirmishes in Dragon's Dogma 2 than I am by the frequent battles in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

They look shitty as hell until they actually render up close. Probably the most distracting thing about the graphic quality outside of the massive performance issues in metro areas.

Is that mostly a PC thing?

I honestly have experienced very little difficulty on XSX.

The only slowdown I noticed was when I had two Pawns flamethrower-ing an Ogre in a mine tunnel he barely fit in and I launched a full charge Ricochet Shot.

The Ogre got obliterated and so did my frame rate.

No spoilers but is there any reason to do the main story quest right when you get to the first major town? Kinda just wanna explore

From what I've seen theres a lot of dungeons that have one specific "entrance" and all the other access points are "exits" and if you go in from the exit side you'll end up hitting those doors that only open from the other side.

damn maelstrom is weak af. just did chip damage to a cyclop w/ a helmet on. no sucking in other enemies either. seems like only meteoron is worth it

i ended up destroying the cyclop in a few seconds w/ augural flare. well two of them mine and another pawn's

Hmm I'm still seeing people say the maelstrom is powerful so ill try it again on diff enemies

2 casts of meteron destroyed a golem holy frick. in the 1st game id have to cast that for like 10 mins straight because of its low accuracy lol.

Golems wouldn't be so bad if they didn't run out of weakpoints and then force you to wait around and do nothing until the last one on its arm lights up for 10 seconds before going into rage mode.

What I disliked: I dislike the horrible optimization on PC, Denuvo DRM, the utterly pointless Day 1 DLC (seriously, stop it), the lack of impact from random encounters, and lack of variety in random encounters. I haven't played far enough to get a sense of the story.

They get another ability that's a HUGE windup swing.

If you hit something big it does massive damage.

If you hit a person-sized thing they straight up Team Rocket Blast Off to the horizon.

Trickster seems pretty shitty.

Plus I started using it immediately before a quest forced me into a one on one fight.

Tricksters can't deal damage alone.

I saw somebody say in that quest to go grab your pawns who are there not helping and throw them at enemies for damage if you're a Trickster :P

Seism and Maelstrom can delete golems like they're nothing, honestly.

Edit: You also don't have to Wait for the last point to light up. If you stab at it enough, the spot on the arm, you'll chip off the rock revealing the magic medal to attack under it.
