I've watched most of Extra Credits (the videos in games anyway), seen a lot of GDC videos and Game Maker's Toolkit videos too. I am no game designer but I do like to learn its concepts and philosophies...just interested in hearing what ya'll like.

I'll start off with one that's as much life-advice and artist-advice as it is game-advice: Fail Faster.

Also, not really a video, but I really liked Super Mario Maker 2's level-making training available. If Sheik can't get into a contest (if we ever have another contest), I might push instead for Yamamura.

Sakurai's are by far the most accurate about actual game development as a job. They have a lot of fluff though so you have to skip the first and last minute usually.

A couple more favorites about what it actually means to make and release games as an art product

GMTK's recent ones about his magnet game are great too. The ones where he just looks at other games are too entertainment-focused though.

For theoretical stuff I like Clockwork game design (not very novel but a great distillation of many ideas).

As well as Attention, Not Immersion (not sure if a video is publicly available but it must be around somewhere).

For pure technical, this is the king. If you're a game who's ever uttered the word "netcode" you need to watch it.

Saw this one before but relistening now, thanks. I do like the concept of building a larger canon of work for that longer business tail he talks about than just counting on a single hit. Also, 18:43 with the surprise athiest-joke. Didn't expect that.

For sure Sakurais channel is the best.

If youre interested in some fighting game-specific stuff, look at Core-A Gaming. These are often examining the design from the perspective of a player and how you can improve your play, but they usually look into the why of how the games are designed in the process.

Also this one is great for a different approach to the hit-chasing. It acknowledges that hits are luck-based but also that you can still increase your chances greatly.

Definitely Tim Rogers' Action Button stuff, his concepts and terms are things I reference all the time.
