https://www.kcur.org/news/2024-03-25/a-missouri-police-sniper-killed-a-2-year-old-girl-why-did-he-take-the-shot

This likely made the rounds back when it happened, but this is yet another fantastic example of how much more dangerous our law enforcement is by virtue of them being able to get away with anything. 100% failure from start to finish, an entire 800-page report detailing those failures, and yet the cop not only isnt punished but is still fucking employed by the department.

The only thing more sickening is the description of how, when he was told what he did, that all he could think of was how it was going to screw him over. And all his law enforcement buddies made sure it didnt. I dont believe for a second he feels an ounce of remorse over killing a 2-year-old. All of us, men, women, and children, are just target dummies for wanna-be heroes itching to pull the trigger.

His name, face, and home address should be on every news site for all to see. But of course he's protected.

Mistakes a little girl for a grown ass man because he couldn't be bothered to bring his night vision along and just fired at the first silhouette he saw.

Family gets an empty 1.5 million, which is still less than what this killer will earn in his lifetime.

Fuck

I am so confused honestly.

Officer Seth Brown knocked on the door of the small camper and asked Crawford to step outside. Instead, Brown told investigators, Crawford retreated, and a few moments later, the door was opened by a little girl. Then, as Shutte walked out, she was shot in the face and head by Crawford.
Just seven minutes after her initial call to police, Shutte was dead.
Heres what happened next, according to reports from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Crawford began firing at officers from inside the camper.
Nobody returned fire because there was a child inside the camper trailer, Baxter Springs Officer Jimmy Hamilton told the KBI.
Two hours later that child, two-year-old Clesslynn Crawford, was also dead: Shot through the head by a police sniper known only in court documents as Sniper 1.

The guy in the camper kills the girlfriend, and shoots at cops, but no one fires back, then in two hours the kid is dead. This doesnt explain anything? Did the guy hold up the kid like the old hat trick or something? Where is the snipers story on what they saw, or who told them to fire? Maybe I missed something in the article, but seriously that is a bare bones story that doesnt explain what happened.

I'd guess the fact that we can't tell exactly what happened based on the released information means the full information makes the police look bad.

Please dont get me wrong, I am in no way defending this, I just want a explanation on what the hell happened. Nobody shot, but somehow she was shot doesnt cut it imo.

Its not confusing if you actually read the entire article. Half of it is dedicated to every single action the sniper took leading up to the shot that killed the child, including detailing that he wasnt using equipment that gave him clear visibility into the trailer and shot at a silhouette of the man without being able to identify whether anyone was in front of or behind him.

It took two hours between when the mother was killed until the sniper killed the girl, after which the man took his own life.

Yes, I read those first couple paragraphs and I see where the message was slightly garbled leading to your question. But had you actually taken the time to read the whole article, it would have explained it clearly.

I apologize, I should have kept reading, it started going over the settlement so I figured the part about what happened was over. My bad.

Why did he take the shot, the link asks.

Because he wanted a paid vacation and to kill someone with, like, no consequences at all. It's what cops do and how the system works.

Someone on IG as a defense for the cop said that the guy sent out the little girl and that's when she got shot. With the sniper apparently prepared to shoot the first person to come outside.

And my response to that person was, so the sniper doesn't know the difference between a grown man and a 2 year old?

Worse, he had night vision and chose not to use it.

-Sunset came at 7:35 p.m., so by the time Sniper 1 was in position it was dark. His rifle had a night vision attachment on the scope. Even though night had fallen, he removed it and placed the device in his cargo pocket, the KBI wrote. He told investigators he thought his target was fairly well illuminated.-

I hear many people join the police because they want to be an action hero. Yeah, the same kind that bends rules about violence and due process to shoot bad guys.

The problem is that by the nature of the movie action heroes generally don't do things wrong and many people have the same stupid mentality.

Now things many things are going wrong with these bravado-filled lunatics as people are seeing the police get preferential treatment and that has attracted the bad while squeezing the good out.

I wouldn't be surprised if wannabe criminals are joining the police because there's protections involved.

What's the record on POTUSs trying to get more accountability on cops? I imagine it's difficult, with the system having so much emphasis on State power.
