The US is on high alert and actively preparing for a significant attack within the next week by Iran targeting Israeli or American assets in the region in response to Mondays Israeli strike in Damascus that killed top Iranian commanders, a senior administration official tells CNN.

Senior US officials currently believe that an attack by Iran is inevitable a view shared by their Israeli counterparts, that official said. The two governments are furiously working to get in position ahead of what is to come, as they anticipate that Irans attack could unfold in a number of different ways and that both US and Israeli assets and personnel are at risk of being targeted.

Israel shouldn't punish Palestinian children for the crimes of Hamas.

They don't want a ceasefire anymore than Gaza aid protesters do.

I'm hesitant to assume this is part of a genuine change of course, but if it is, then it's really good to finally see one.

JERUSALEM, April 8 (Reuters) - Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that a date has been set for an Israeli invasion of Rafah, Gaza's last refuge for displaced Palestinians, without disclosing that date as a new round of ceasefire talks take place in Cairo.

"Today I received a detailed report on the talks in Cairo, we are constantly working to achieve our goals, first and foremost the release of all our hostages and achieving a complete victory over Hamas," Netanyahu said.

"This victory requires entry into Rafah and the elimination of the terrorist battalions there. It will happen - there is a date."

The announcement of a crossing and a port to open for aid on Sunday, April 7, has not been updated. I was hoping.

I cannot count all the reasons why "eliminating Hamas' military capability" is not an honest statement of intent. Many reasons have been given in these topics already. The obvious reason for me is this military capability is based on funding and neither leveling Gaza nor leveling a consulate building in Syria stops the money. Israel is doing nothing that will stop the money and Israel understands the importance of money better than I do.

On Sunday, Israel approved a plan to send taxes earmarked for Gaza to Norway instead of the Palestinian Authority (PA), which exercises limited self-rule in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
Since November, taxes that would ordinarily be sent to Gaza have been frozen by the Israeli government.
Under the terms of a deal reached in the 1990s, Israel collects tax on behalf of the Palestinians and makes monthly transfers to the PA pending the approval of the Ministry of Finance.
While the PA was ousted from the Gaza Strip in 2007, many of its public sector employees in the enclave kept their jobs and continued to be paid with transferred tax revenues.
Weeks after the Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, Israel took the decision to withhold payments earmarked for those employees in the Gaza Strip on the grounds that they could fall into the hands of Hamas.
Now, Israel says it will instead send the frozen funds to Norway. The frozen funds will not be transferred to the Palestinian Authority, but will remain in the hands of a third country, the Israeli prime ministers office said in a statement released on Sunday.

The footage shows hundreds of people gathering around aid trucks on Al Rashid Street. Many people appear to be running and some crawling away, in an attempt to seek cover. But the crucial moment capturing what caused the crowd to scatter is missing. The video then cuts to show bodies on the ground though it is not clear whether they are alive or dead in a location geolocated by CNN near to the checkpoint.

Recorded using night-vision, the drone footage is the only available video that gives a clear view of the crowds. If nothing else, it shows just how difficult it would have been to fire with any degree of accuracy at what the IDF described as suspects among the tightly packed people surrounding the convoy.

A lot of effort by CNN to not mention three of those grandchildren are girls.

Yeah, the 20% of Israel's population that is Arab polls very strongly in favor of ending the war which brings the total polling up to... 25%.

During the last ceasefire Israel was exposed for sniping civilians, including children, during a time when they "shouldn't have been" (they should never be sniping civilians, however you get my point). Yes, Hamas did eventually break that ceasefire themselves, however if I'm not mistaken Israel was still sniping people like the very first day of the ceasefire.

Nothing Israel does is in good faith, the IDF literally murdered 3 of their own hostages who had escaped, were shirtless & waving white flags, begging for help in Hebrew, and were gunned down by the IDF who no doubt thought they were just killing more Palestinian civilians nobody would care about. But whoops, it was their own people they were meant to save.

Because the ceasefire is only ever a temporary agreement. Never actually a means to an end and only a means to get all hostages back (which is obviously a good thing) but then Israel will continue bombing the moment the hostages are returned, and because they now have the hostages back, they'll bomb even more relentlessly since they don't have to worry about how bad it looks to keep bombing even with their hostages in the target area.

I'm not particularly interested in whataboutisms or attempts to paint people being subjected to genocide as responsible for or deserving of the atrocities being committed against them, which is very obviously what you're trying to push here, so feel free to keep your thoughts to yourself. Or make them more explicit so we can just report you.

There's no number to a genocide. You've simply assigned an arbitrary number that Israel would have to meet in order to qualify for a genocide to fit your narrative.

Do you think that Israel can just rack an even higher death toll at will and other countries that aren't as closely aligned with Israel won't speak out to what's going on? They want it to be a slow burn so they can get away with it.
