The movie is fine without any of that imo. It wasnt great, but a fun movie.

There was still some flirting especially when she still thought he was the real deal.

but ya an actual love arc would have been stupid lol. Water strider!

heavy spoilers:
its a red herring/reveal. They chase the term water strider throughout the movie which was a mistranslation of water spider, and the reveal basically results in them stopping the bad guys plan
