We have one at school I could probably use whenever I want. No idea the size or model though.

I want to get one but dont really know what Id use it for or what a good price would be.

I used online services a few times, now a friend bought one. Mainly used it for DnD minis.

yeah, I worked as IT-helpdesk at a library a couple of years ago and they had a few 3D printers and laser engravers in the computer lab. I didn't make a ton of things, since I didn't want to take advantage (I was able to print for free), but I did print a few pokemon for my nephew and those turned out pretty good.

the printers were "creality ender" but idr which exact model. I've been thinking about getting one for myself, the prices of those are under 200ish from what I've seen. it's a fun hobby but printing does take longer than you'd expect it to (you can change printing speeds/distance of print (I think of it like image resolution) but that affects quality/sturdiness of the final product)

idk a ton about them, so can't really give good advice about what to get. there are some subreddits that I found really helpful when I was learning how to use them

Yes, though it's been in storage for a while now.

I made several things that can't be posted about here (somewhere between 4 and 20); some from scratch, some by modifying existing models. I also made a paper towel roll holder once. As for things I just downloaded and printed, I printed a comb once when I couldn't find one; as well as printing lots of stuff that doesn't serve any functional purpose (ducks (not a typo), ducks (a typo this time), ...). Tried to print a perch for our cockatiel once, but he would have nothing to do with it.

It's a Da Vinci, quite an old model now (mid 2010s). Modded to get out of their inkjet-style lockin, of course.

I had a random thought today. Are 3D printers better than normal printers? I dunno, I've never used one. But it would seem to me, if it were a device that mostly just makes an LED flash at you to indicate any of a billion and twenty problems instead of ever actually working, they would never have taken off.

I do, but it's broken. Only after buying and putting it together only for it to constantly mess up, clog, and so on did I finally realize how effing hard it is to actually get everything up and running and eventually before I could figure everything out it stopped working and I stopped caring.

However it was also a cheap 3d printer and not designed the best from what I've heard.

Someday soon I'm either going to try again or buy a 3d printer that comes built and in working order to try and properly learn everything properly from an easier starting place hopefully.
