It's bull shit they were exempted from serving yet had the same electoral power. And in fact are the dominant political faction that has bellicose policy, when they're not the ones that have to serve.
I figured at some point the portion of Israelis paying taxes and dying in service of their country would protest/revolt against these hyper-religious ingrates just leeching off of their labor and blood.

Funny how the voting bloc absolutely representing the most hardcore expansionist position is also the most aghast at the idea of actually serving in the military needed to defend, annex, and occupy the regions that they want.

BREAKING | Israel's Supreme Court issues decision to stop funding yeshivas (Jewish religious schools) for the ultra Orthodox (Haredim) as of Monday, April 1.

This comes in the wake of a conscription law that would force formerly exempt Ultra Orthodox Jews to enlist in the Israeli army, which is facing a major manpower crisis.

The Haredim have protested and threatened to leave the country if they are forced to serve in the army.

Isn't Israel the only country on Earth that forces both men and women to enlist in the armed forces? I'm surprised the army has staffing issues.

They thought they were protected like how in the US the rich elite don't send their kids off to die in their for profit wars, turns out they were wrong and now they're throwing a tantrum. Time will tell if it's effective or not.

I loathe the idea of forced conscription. I also have a deep abiding hatred of people who demand that others fight, kill, and die while they sit safely far away. I tend to be of a similar mentality to yours here.

They sat idly by while others were conscripted to fight, but that they will be inconvenienced by it, now they want to run.

Reminds me of the Russians who fled Russia during the Ukraine war when Putin started a draft.

IDF have officially lost 597 soldiers, officers, and reservists in this conflict.
More than half died during the Oct 7 attack.
